Question My question + a video on the Radioshack 22-1697 vs the Laser Tester

First off I saw this video and thought, oh another boring laser tester against a radar detector. Then I saw the video and noticed a few things.

1 - A detector that shows the type of laser gun? Since when has a detector done this and what detector is this? Never heard of it

2 - Why hasn't any of the other companies did this with their radar/laser detectors?

    Video is below

Back when I was a futile infant, my Cobra RD would tell me the type of laser gun. But it only alert twice, once was an Ultralyte 20-20 alert on a dark street in the dead of night, with no LEO around for miles. Once the alert was valid but I didn't know enough to know if the gun ID was correct.

That's what I was thinking. Gotta be a Cobra rebadge.

I used to have a Radio Shack radar detector (not sure what model but I bought it about 10 years ago). It did have a "laser alert" and an "Ultralyte laser" alert and possibly one or two others. The laser alert was very fickle. It seemed to go off nearly every time I got to a certain RPM. Then it failed to go off the one time I encountered real police laser and got a ticket from what was most likely a PL3. The thing was a POS. But, what do you know at 16?

at 16 you make a valid point. Thats why I try to educate anyone who is willing to listen.

I could tell in the video that the owner of both devices tried to set off the detector numerous times without an alert. This could be the detector sucking , or the operator error.

Some of the pulse rates on that tester are from Euro guns that have very high pulse rates. US RDs purposely limit the range of what pulse rates they will alert to, for the purpose of minimizing false laser alerts, which makes sense since those guns aren't used in the US anyhow. This is why the uber-sensitive V1 has trouble detecting the TraffiPatrol XR. It's not that the V1 can't see the laser, but rather that it is rejecting the signal because the pulse rate is too high.
