Thread: POP rumor....

    Default POP rumor....

Hey guys new here....but uhhhh I have a question regarding about POP. I have read on a site that POP can not be used to issue speeding tickets. So with that brought up..... why do radar detectors have the POP function if it can't be used against you?????

Because POP can warn you of an impending instant-on hit, which CAN be used against you.

That's Assuming all Cops follow the rules.......which some don't.
I'm sure some will mis-use POP mode to issue tickets.

I still cant get my head around POP. With instant on why bother to give yourself away with a signal that you cant use in court. Isnt "Instant On"..........instant on?

POP was created to be "undetectable" by radar detectors. Instant on *is* detectable, if a LEO uses it on someone up ahead. Of course, with newer detectors, POP is also detectable, for the most part.

Although POP readings aren't supposed to be used to issue tickets, some LEOs do anyway. In the case of a LEO who does it the correct way, if your detector doesn't detect POP, you'll get no warning when you're "popped". You will get a warning when he switches to instant-on, but then it's too late. You just got a ticket.

POP detection can benefit you since you can get a warning on cars in front of you, or when you get "popped", and can hopefully slow down before the LEO has a chance to switch to instant-on mode for the kill shot.
If I'm passing you on the right, YOU are in the wrong lane!

If speed kills, how come I'm still alive?

POP fires a ridiculously quick burst (16-67ms, I believe) that cannot be locked on to a car for ticket-writing purposes. Instant-on leaves the radar in a hot standby mode until the officer pulls the trigger and locks on to a car, usually for a couple of seconds while getting a reading.

POP is for a ballpark estimate of speed. Instant-on is for a court-accepted reading.

the other night on my way home i was popped 3 times from a cop down a long streach of road that has a 35 limit. most people go about 45-50ish. i was the only car on the road and luckily i was traveling at about 40-41mph. when i got popped, i imediately hit the breaks for a quick second and hit the cruise control at 35. i then recieved an instant on k band hit when i got closer to him. had i not had pop capibility or had pop off, i would have most likely been ticketed or had a very close call.

goes to show what pop can do for ya!

Good thing the MPH Z25 and MPH Z35 aren't that popular. These truly are undetectable POP with the 16ms K band POP burst. One of these radar guns from a hidden location would be deadly, absolutely no chance of an advance warning.
