Default Why buy a radar detector?

My question is .. What was the main reason you purchased your radar detector?

First, I don’t street race. I wanted something that will remind me that I’m exceeding the posted limit. At times I do find myself driving 10 or so above the posted speed limit. It’s been years since I owned a RD. In 2008 I took delivery of a new Corvette at the National Corvette Museum. I noticed while driving it home that I was exceeding the speed limit by a huge amount. I felt that this was just the case of getting used to driving this machine. During the coming months I decided it would be to my best interest to look for a RD to keep me aware. The cars heads up display on the windshield showing my speed was not enough to keep me safe. One afternoon I was pulled over by a local Sherriff. I was positive that I was going to get ticketed for my speed. He came to my window and all he said was that I need to get a front license plate.

I decided to get a RD and after testing a couple I decided to use the 9500ix. I wanted something that would give me as little false alarms as possible and the ix seems to be doing a good job.

I know everyone has their own idea or preference as to which one is the best. We all know that none will guarantee that you will never get a speeding ticket.

    Merry Christmas to all

The first time I took a trip on the PA Turnpike, I was young and stupid and listened to the cute asian girl I was with who said that "there aren't really any places for the cops to hide." That's when I realized that driving 80-90 MPH doesn't mean instant death as I'd been indoctrinated to believe. Unfortunately, the second trip I took on that road resulted in a ticket for 92 MPH, which is why I have a RD...

If I want to be aware of my speed I just look at the speedometer whenever I accelerate or go down a hill. I can't honestly use that as a reason.

Speed limits are often underposted which is why we "find ourselves" breaking them when we're not paying attention, but it's important to know how much you're speeding so you know how to react when there's a threat.

I don't race either, but as you well know it's hard to keep 436 HP under 70 MPH. I like to drive faster than most, so I use a RD.

Why not avail yourself to all the advantages available.

I tend to stuff the pedal every once in a while to clean out the exhaust! That's why I use a RD.

Because I have a lead foot, not on purpose, but most of the time but I needed to keep an eye on my speed so LEO wouldn't have to.

    9500ix all the way!!!

Situational awareness mainly, I don't speed overly much but there's certain times my foot gets a little "heavy" *cough*. There's areas around here were the speed drops from 35 to 25 and back again in less than 1/8 mile and guess where the cops sit?

Plus, I'm a geek and it's a fun geek toy to have in your car.

I was an OTR driver on tight delivery schedules, and the FuzzBuster and following Escorts helped me get 4 or more hours extra sleep per run. After I shifted to another career field, I found it beneficial to spend more time out from behind the wheel on long trips.

Because most cars can do more than the speed limit.
