Default Question about window tint and RD placement

Hi everyone. I just purchased a new radar detector and plan to place it high on my windshield near the RVM since my area has only radar detection and no laser. I do however have a 6 inch strip of "windshield visor tint" at the top of my wind shield.

Would placing my detector in the tint area effect its ability to pick up radar signals? The tint is limo dark, but is not the reflective variety.

    Thanks in advance.

also will tint on the rear window effect the ability to pick up rear signals? (again, not the reflective variety of tint)

You shouldn't have any loss in detection range with your tint as long as it it not metallic/ceramic. You could also drive by a local false area (CVS/Walgreens) and move your detector around to see if there is any loss or gain in detection intensity

Generally factory embedded tint in windshields will have no affect on Radar. There are certain manufacturers and cars that have athermic tint.

If California gets it's way, soon all glass in all cars will be athermic and therefore degrade radio signals coming in or exiting your car.

my tint is aftermarket, but I will let you all know how things go when I get my RD. I also checked the thread with the listing of athermic tint in vehicles and my car fortunately is not on the list.

    Thanks again guys!
