    Default Post your laser facts here

    Thought it would be a great thread to start, Laser Facts hence there are many out there. It would be pretty intersting to see what others can post.

    1) A US. License Plate is 12" wide a laser beam would cover the width of the plate at 335 feet and further.

    Default mRad per LIDAR unit

    Interesting. I am inthe middlel of lovely court preparation for Feb 24th in Southie (aka South Boston). I am working on calculations for the LaserAtlanter SpeedLaser R and S model.
    The brochure lists the specs - the important one is the Divergence of the beam. the beam gets larger as it travels further from its source. In this case, it is 3 mrads. There is a calc tool here in one of the threads. the question there is what mrad measurement is hardcoded into it?

    The equation is simple.
    L (length from source to target) = d(diameter of beam) divided by divergence(usually in mrads)

    You may see the "divided by" represented as 2 times tangent of divergence divided by 2.....or 2Tan(~0/2) - for small mrads this is pretty much no matter..... (LIDAR Guns must be less than or equal to 5mrads by IACP requirement)

    In my case the length was 1009'(308m)
    The divergence of the LIDAR unit is 3mrad or .003m
    So we plug in 308m = d/.003m

    I'll paste the rest...
    d = 0.92400069300062370056801301789422 meters
    d = 3.0314983 feet
    Diameter of LIDAR Beam at 1009 feet is greater than 3 feet.

    I am taking this, putting into a nice powerpoint slide (I do lots of presentations with powerpoint so I'll be comfy and in my zone doing it).

    I won't stop there, however.
    I requested public documents, namely the officer's training records using shooting grade and the LIDAR training. He got a whopping 72.5 in weapons training test and a slim 88 in radar test. He only had an 8 hour course in LIDAR.
    All of this adds up to my next point. The distance and accuracy of his human ability. 1 degree of error at 1009 feet throws the target off by more than 14 FEET. ummmm.... If my car was 14 feet wide I'd need a CDL and a flashing yellow truck everywhere I drove to!!!!
    Even a half of a degree of HUMAN ERROR reinforced by his test results say that the center of the beam is off of my car and more than half could have been the car in the fast lane to my left as I moved into the middle lane. I am also bringing pictures of my car, and a coworker's car at 1009' away. Christ...I can hardly see the defensive line at the Patriots game at 300 feet away!

    These people are nuts. I can't wait for court day.

    Off of the list subject, the pike speed limit sign in the teddy tunnel is not matching the MUTCD from the DOT. The east bound side DOES have a regulation size sign (proportionally). Maybe they are prejudiced against east and/or west???

    I won't need breakfast that day because I am gonna eat me some prosecution in a feast of facts.

    Soup's on baby!
    Hopefully the thread gets more facts to use eh???
