Default Will turning Pop on help to detect quick trigger??

Simple question... will turning the Pop function on increase your chance of picking up quick trigger???

No, it'll actually cut your detection range because your RD will have to waste time checking the POP frequencies. Plus, you'll get a ton of false alarms. Your chances of ever getting hit by POP are slim to none.

Some say it does help, others say no.

On the V1 it's reported to help, on the Escorts I'm not so sure about.

I do know it will drive you crazy with false alerts though, so if you quit paying attention to it because of the falses, how has it helped you.

The V1 is supposed to be the best on detecting QT, so if it's a major worry then I suggest you run the V.

Turning POP on is a bad idea for any Escort Detector. It has no value whatsoever in improving response times to QT's..........in fact it makes reaction times worse.......MUCH worse! Turning POP on will easily drive average response times up to over 1 second! The only possible band it improves response time for is Ka 33.8 for real POP transmission.......but I'm not sure it really adds value to 33.8 quick triggers.

POP on/off is a mixed bag of goodies on the V1. With POP on, the V1 is lightening quick on K-Band and 33.8 Ka. Since it looks at these frequencies up to five times the rate of a normal sweep, it's also likely that the V1 is more sensitive on these frequencies when in POP mode. Using the same logic, having POP on might decrease your range just a bit to the non-POP radar frequencies.

Turning POP off should improve reaction times to the non-POP freqencies of 10.525, 34.7 and 35.5. However, turning POP off does make the V1 more susceptable to missing quick shots on K-band and 33.8.

I've seen proof of the measured reaction times..........the difference in sensitivity is just speculation on my part based on things I've read. I have not seen any testing done to prove a measureable difference in sensitivity between the two modes on the V1.

Enabling POP detection will slightly increase the alert response time on belescort detectors, so enabling POP will definitely hinder detecting quick triggered radar.

You will also notice frequent POP false alerts from other detectors. For these reasons, and because POP is very rarely used today, POP detection is off by default in belescort detectors.

That's pretty much right on target. I was quite surprised by the decrease in K band QT performance with POP off on the V1.
