Question I know this has been beat to death but please give me some answers!

ok...Car is a 95 Z28 camaro. RD is a refurb. escort 8500. Test site @ Ingles w/ forward facing K-band microwave door openers, I was parked across parking lot facing the doors. (other cars were parked at front of store to simulate traffic). Odd ball results that go against anything on here. Please explain why and tell me the best location from the pics below.

Radar reflections are tricky, radar is very reflective.

Keep in mind that the door opener is aimed at the ground while police radar is aimed nearly horizontal. What I gather from your test results is mounting the detector higher will reduce radar falsing

In general, for better police radar reception, the higher you mount it, the better radar detection.

Lower mounting is generally better for laser reception as your front plate and/or headlights are the prime laser targets.

The next radar speed trap that you come across do the same test over multiple passes and post the results

This question may need to go under "advice on placement". But to answer the question, look at the source. Do more than one test always. Move to a several spots in the parking lot. Then come back with your findings and I think you will be able to answer your on question. Watch out for bad window tint, windshield wipers getting in the way, and hood reflections may also effect the strength!

It was probably low to the ground and that is what caused it.

    thanks for the replies!

so testing against a speed sign would be my best bet? only problem is there aren't any around here.

hopefully i'll find something to test it on.

I would retest on a dry window. The water drops on the bottom of the window were small, the one's on the top very large. It could have an effect.

From my experience, higher mount reduces falses, yet gives more range against actual LEO radar.

I believe that anywhere you mount it you will have enough notice to slowly pull over and get your license and Insurance out........

Oh wow, thanks for the addition to the topic. Great job.

It's consistently agreed upon that the RD should be mounted high if you want maximum radar coverage. The alarm could have been shooting low or the rain could have been a factor. Go ahead and put faith in it up high.
