    Default V1 or Redline or ????

    I am a rookie, just joined tonight...I drive 2000 mile weekly from SC to Virginia and back to SC...Travel mostly I95 and some backroads in S.C. Until I found this forum I was ready to order a V1, but have seen a lot of advocates of the Escort Redline.. I won't really need RD for in town drivng, more interested in I95 and backroad highway detection. Associate of mine runs V1 from Maryland to SC and swears by it, he has 4 V1's...He says V1 is Stealth in Va....I am interested in anyone givng me guildance with my choice....thanks

    V1 and the Redline are the two best windshield RD's.

    I don't think you can go wrong with either.

    I'm sure there are more differences, but I throw out some off the top of my head.

    If direction the radar is coming from is a big deal, or if you're curious about the direction of radar get the V1. If Instant on is a big deal get the V1.

    Some have said the Redline picks up further than the V1, but unless you live out in the desert you may, or may not really notice the difference. If stealth is your main concern get the Redline.

    The V1 is anywhere from new $100-$140 (returned V1) less than the Redline if that matters. Of course if you send in an old RD you can get $80 off the price of the Redline for a total of $420.

    I have a V1, and am pleased with it, but will buy a Redline sometime in the next couple of months just to have one.

    Just to name another RD. A Escort 8500 S7 from Escort's ebay store is a great deal. It's $149 including shipping and is a very good RD without the high price.

    It's highly recommended around here from some of the veterans of the board. I bought one off of the recommendation many months back and have been pleased with it as well.

    In the GOL tests the Spectre III picked up the V1 at around 700 feet, thats nowhere near stealth; however, I know a few people that run V1s in Virginia without much problem with proper mounting. Not alot of cops have spectres its seems. Personally I'm to paranoid so I got an STI-R which like the redline has the M3 antenna which is truly stealth

    I have a V1 but if you travel or live in areas where a RD is not legal. Go with the redline and hide it where it can not be seen in the windshield, that is, behind the tint band or above the RVM so a Leo can not see it even when in alarm.

    It's a toss up, they're both considered the best windshield mounts on the market.

    Radar Detection range: Redline wins, small margin. Both detectors will give adequate range in most situations.
    Radar Detection reactivity: V1 wins, Redline is good for most situations but can miss QT shots.
    Off axis: Redline wins most of the time, V1 very good also.
    Laser sensitivity: V1 wins, Redline laser sensitivity is inadequate. It's a ticket notifier anyway.
    Arrows and bogey counter: V1 has them, the Redline does not.
    Stealth: Redline is immune to Spectre, V1 is not

    Other comments: Valentine 1 has a rear antenna and rear laser pickup, so it will win in those situations also. The Redline has a few more "eye candy" features, the most useful being the Spec. display (I really miss that with my V1).

    My personal choice is the V1 because I want the arrows and the QT protection. I also think Valentine have better customer service. Choose which is best for you.

    V1 = $399
    Redline = $499
