    Default Escort 8500 v. C65 v. Pro78

I'm trying to get a comparison on these detectors-mostly for Ka band.(which is all CHP uses). I like voice alerts, so that's a plus for me.

    Escort 8500 refurb-$150 or $200 for X50
    Escort C65-identical to the Escort 8500 x50 as i read. $200
Whistler Pro78-$150 on radar busters after coupon. I've read the pro78 has really good Ka band performance, which is all i'm looking for. Performed poorly in the GOL tests though?
Belt V995-$200. Seems to have pretty good Ka band performance according to the GOL tests.

Any opinions of these detectors and which is the best at Ka Band? I'm liking the pro78 at this point. Any other suggestions are great too.

*Escort 8500 is GOOD RD,but it is REFUR not new and no voice alert.
*C65 is identical to RX65 Red,with female voice alert+Spec Display, can be found for $189 new..
*Pro 78,Good RD for $150,but too much Ka False(Ka False every 15-20mins in SoCal Fwy)

I would go with new C65 or Used 9500i for under $250

The Pro 78 does not false nearly as bad as the SE platform. The 690 SE i own is better on Ka than my Pro 78 Rev C. My Pro 78 was a REV A then was updated to Rev C and wow a change it made on Ka band.

Even during the GOL test held 2007 in Arizona, the Whistler Rev A had a number of wins over some of the other other high performance models.

The XTR-690 and Pro-78 beat the V955 in run 2 of the 35.5 test
    The XTR-690 beat the 9500i #1 and 9500i #2 in run 1 of the 34.7 test
    The XTR-690 and Pro-78 beat the 9500i #2 and the V1 #3 in run 2 of the 34.7 test
The XTR-690 and Pro-78 was on par or beat the 9500i #1 in run 3 of the 34.7 test
The XTR-690 and Pro-78 beat the RX65 in run 1 of the 33.8 test
The XTR-690 beat the RX65 and the 8500 X50 #2 and the V955 and on par with the 9500i #1 in run 2 of the 33.8 test
    The XTR-690 beat the RX65 and the 8500 X50 #2 in run 3 of the 33.8 test

If you're here in SoCal, you 100% do not want to use a Whistler. The Belscorts will perform much better against CHP. All of the ones you've asked about will perform about the same, so choose the feature set you like best.

Also, beware of CHP moto units and their laser. They are like ants now that the weather is back to normal.

Picking and choosing runs here and there trying to make a case for a Whistler doesn't tell the real story. Whistlers don't work well here in SoCal. Neither Whistler SE beat any Belscort RD on any Ka band(which is almost all we see here in SoCal) on any run at the most recent GoL real world test.

I live in NorCal, but soon the Central Coast. The hills may be a factor i guess in the coastal region. I'm going cheap($200) on the radar detector, but buying a LI because laser is so frequently used by CHP nowadays.

So the general conscious is that the C65 is a good performer against Ka band? It's the same as the RX65(so m4 antenna)? Plus it has the voice alerts i want.

The pro78se(or xtr-690) doesn't perform as well? It's cheaper, but i'm not sure about its performance.

Very wise move. A decent detector and a very good laser jammer is a very good choice for protection here in Cali.

Yes. For under $200, the C65 is a good choice.

I tested four different Whistler SEs here in Cali and my M4 9500ixs vastly outperformed them.

All of them are great budget detectors, my personal choice would be the C65 or the 8500.
