    Default V1 vs. Escort

It seems the majority of forum members use the VI vs. 9500ix or other Escort radar. Why?

Because there are only two makers of high end radar detectors, Escort (same as Bel) and Valentine Research.

If im reading your post correctly.

The V1 is more of a enthusiasts RD with out all the cool bells and whistles. Great performance and no gimmicks. Most enthusiasts like raw function and less fluff. Some want both and get a V1 9500ci combo.

Its like some car enthusiasts, most would take and old cobra mustang with a blower, over a BMW M series.

CGR328 understood my question. I was asking why most forum members use the V1 instead of the Escort 9500ix. I appreciate the insight and good analogy.

Most of us are willing to tolerate the V1's propensity to alert to any and all radar sources (including many false alarms), in exchange for its excellent sensitivity and awesome responsiveness.

The (belscort) M3 platform has amazing sensitivity, but lacks responsiveness.

The M4 platform has tunnel vision and also lacks responsiveness, but tends to have a good price to feature ratio.

Every high end radar detector has some sort of trade off.

In a group of people who like to "play" with radar detectors as a kind of hobby, the V1's extra beeping is just part playing the game.

To many of us, getting surprised by a radar/laser trap = losing.

False alarms are a secondary issue.
