well im 17 years old just to start out. Im looking to get a radar detector because i would like to avoid getting a ticket since at this age a ticket would be harmful to my insurance ( already $950 every 6 months because i drive a 3.8 liter supercharged v6)

I have been looking around different sites and the 2 best dectectors i would consider buying are the Bel RX65 or the escort passport 8500 x50 in the red display (since it matches my car and is cheaper). These are both at or above the $300 mark which to me is pretty expensive. I was looking at ebay but however they dont give warrenties for products bought off of ebay. So i decided not to go that route.

At this point the price is what is slowing down my decision. I just paid off my car and i need to buy new tires which is almot $800. i however dont want to get a detector that wont protect me enough to make it worth spending the money on a detector and getting a false sense of security.

I definately want POP and the ability to upgrade along with the other common features.

Which dectectors do i have to choose from?

Which place is the best to buy from for the lowest price?

Also does anyone have either of the 2 (red or blue in the escort) i mentioned for sale?

Roy has great customer service and good prices, just give him a call or email or something.

New tires, 3.8 S/C... you gotta stop turning off your TCS on in that GTP am I right?

Red X50 sounds like the ticket. Stay away from ebay.

You stated you wanted a RD that was upgradable! There is only 1 that can in all honesty truely offer what is known as true upgradability. That would be a V1 and if you call VR and ask for a returned unit you will get probably a new unit plus it will have the full warranty for $350. If I were you and was willing to drop $300 bux I would seriously hold of until I had the extra 50 bux and you will have the ultimate above and beyond anyother out there.

You might consider the Vector 995. It's $269 from Roy, has pretty much the same range as the X50 or RX65, plus Ku band and is upgradable.

Whatever you get, go ahead and get the hardwire kit to go with it. (It comes with the V1 and is a few $$ extra for the belscort detectors.) It really helps to keep a low profile which, in my opinion, is extremely important when your prime objective is not to be noticed by the wrong people.
