Default Valentine One or Escort Redline

    Dear all,

I've been reading up on forums and reading on comparisons between the Valentine One and the Escort Redline. I've also watched videos comparing the two and I don't see much of a difference. However, I have a few questions about the valentine one before I make my decision.

Since it seems the Valentine One does not do voice alerts, does the tone allow you to know which band is it detecting?

    Are the arrows always accurate?

Is it good at off-axis radar/laser?

I am ready the pull the trigger on a radar detector within a week. After a close call on Friday, I needed a better radar detector than my Whistler 78pro SE. I was traveling about 80-85 mph on I-84 around 2AM, right before I-90 MASS Pike, when my whistler suddenly screamed out a laser alert. Right then and there, I saw a police cruiser and the driver starting up his car. I feared the worst and thought oh god, I am going to be pulled over. However, I was part of a pack of 3 going around the same speed, but I was close by my rabbit. I was in the rightmost lane, and my rabbit was in the middle lane. He eventually pulled over the rabbit after I let him pass me. After a close call like this, I definitely feel like I need a better radar detector, even though I know laser is impossible to beat unless you have a laser jammer. Hopefully, the Valentine One or Redline have a better laser sensor to sniff out laser signals that are reflected around the environment. I have too many close calls with the Whistler Pro-78se since the roads in the northeast are not straight and are very curvy. My alerts do probably only reach 0.25 miles at best. At 80mph, that isn't much time. Sometimes, I will get an alert 0.1 miles before I see the police trooper.

I am not planning to live in VA or DC or even Canada anytime soon, so I was wondering is Valentine One worth the cost? I also realize it does not have spec mode like the whistler pro-78se so it can identify which frequency the band is. Usually, if I see a frequency display for Ka band on my whistler, I can tell 99% it's a cop. With a Valentine One, I fear that I may be prone to falses on Ka. My whistler gets so many Ka falses around here in Massachusetts. I rely on the frequency to confirm police radar. Anyone please give an input. Thank you all!

I also would like to know since I have an Infiniti G35x WITH the technology package (laser cruise control), would the Valentine One be prone to laser falses in my car? Would the Redline be better at filtering out this?

Since it seems the Valentine One does not do voice alerts, does the tone allow you to know which band is it detecting? No voice alerts on the V1. There are different tones for each band. Most people can tell the difference, some cannot. I have a concealed display with custom colors which makes it really easy.

Are the arrows always accurate? Most of the time.

Is it good at off-axis radar/laser?By my strict standards I'd say average with off axis radar. Now I'm going to answer a something about the following paragraph. A LASER DETECTOR WILL NOT SAVE YOU. The principles of laser simply do not allow advanced detection. Think of a laser detector like wiring a buzzer into you airbag system. It will only buzz about .005 seconds before your f***** and there is nothing you can do.

I was in the rightmost lane, and my rabbit was in the middle lane. He eventually pulled over the rabbit after I let him pass me.

I don't know that but those SOB's make mine false from like .25 of a mile and it gives me the runs every time.Would the Redline be better at filtering out this?Maybe better because its not as sensitive on lase but then again sensitivity on laser is worthless. There is a guy on here with like 9 laser sensors on his car and he has never picked it up ahead of time.

I'll try to answer from an un biased V1 owner's perspective.

    (if that's possible)

So I guess if I get the valentine one, I would have to turn off my adaptive cruise control at all times?

You should probably turn it off anyway. Who the hell needs cruise control when you have a perfectly good calf muscle? I don't like using cruise control because I hate giving up control to any kind of computer...which is why I prefer the V1 to all others.

The V1 tones are good if you do not use a loud radio. X and K are about the same, but Ka and Laser is noticeable. LEDs at night takes a few seconds to pick out. I run the V1 where a weak X and K is at a low tab volume and everything else is for braking at a loud main volume for quick response from hits. The arrows on a 3.872 are 99% accurate with the 1% is flickering due to bouncing signals, no problem there. Ghosting (where a signal reads 2) happens but rare and last mostly a few seconds but returns to an accurate reading, makes you think sometimes. Off axis, according to the part 2 of the GOL test, is the best in the field by far, explain that. I have been using the V1 since 1994 and I know exactly the situation awareness around me but had to think a couple of times. The Redline seems attempting, but I would wait for the GOL test. So, I would not hesitate to tell anyone that the V1 is the best out there by far, period!...

lol...I'm from NJ, but I commute frequently to Boston...three and a half hour drive each way...I find that the cruise control is useful especially during long times on I-95, I-91, I-84, and I-90

The laser cruise control may be a problem. Other members can step in a inform you on this....

I think its emitting all the time, even when you have it "de-activated." You may have to pull a fuse or something. The other option would be to turn off laser on the V1.

I owned both (Redline for about two months). However, I ended up switching over to a V1, JUST BECAUSE.

They are BOTH great detectors and will provide you similar levels of security.

You can flip a coin over either (& and an additional $100). Redline no doubt has nicer craftsmanship and features. A V1, is a V1.
