    Default Bogeys and Expert Meter

    Does anyone know how far apart the frequency of two different signals needs to be in order for an Escort to report it as a separate signal in Expert Meter? How about for the V1 to register it as a different "bogey?"

    K band is the primary band my local LEOs use and a lot of the K band falses in my area seem to be near the center of the band, though only about 75% of the LEO's RADARs are actually near the center of the band. I usually turn GPS filtering off when I need to speed in town (which is rare), and just use Expert Meter to tell me when an additional signal is present. I was thinking today that it's possible I wouldn't get any warning at all if the signals were close enough together, hince my question.

    I hate to post a reply that is kind of a non-answer, but the reason I think nobody has replied yet is that there isn't a definitive answer.

    This is going to depend on some things like how strong the signal is, temperature, manufacturing differences, radio noise and what band we're talking about.

    I guess you could speculate that maybe the segmentation for separate frequency might be the same as the separation for each truelock segment of that given band. (This is a guess)

    According to CJR238's FAQ about the 9500i(x) (which is excellent), truelock segments X band into 13-15 Mhz wide segments, and K band into around 30 Mhz segments. These particular segments are going to depend upon how the unit has self calibrated

    I guess what can be drawn from this is that, at the very most, the frequencies have to be at least this far apart.

    Given that most escorts have the same antenna (M4) and about the same electronics when it comes to the actual radar detection, you could guess that this is the same for all of them except for the 9500ci, STi Driver, and STi-R, which have the M3 antenna.

    I read CJR238's excellent FAQ a few times, and was actually expecting him to have the answer to this question. I know K band segments are locked out in 30Mhz blocks. IF you are correct and Expert Meter requires frequencies to be 30Mhz apart to register them as separate frequencies, then people who say Truelock is crap would have no grounds. Basically if you are not using GPS capabilities and relying on a Bogey Counter or Expert Meter to identify a new signal where you are already aware one is present, a LEO parked in a known false location in the same frequency segment would not be identified anyways.

    Now, I do not think this is true. I have no facts yet which is why I posted this question, but I'm hoping Expert Meter uses a smaller block to identify a new frequency and/or also takes into account signal strength. I wish Truelock would do this, as almost every day I encounter my local LEOs in the city running K band in locked out areas. When I unlock the signal I get the full signal bar from their RADAR pointed at me, though I know the K band false that was locked out was a much lower signal strength.

    Maybe Escort Radar can answer this question?

    Just because truelock blocks are 30Mhz (or 25?) doesnt mean that the RD can only see down to that resolution. The blocks are that wide to account for some frequency drift of the door openers. I don't know how well the M4s see frequencies but my S7 X50 can see down to about 8Mhz accuracy when I observe the numbers hopping around in spec mode. I'm sure the M4 can identify multiple frequencies better, and it was a long time ago but I remember reading a post by MEM-TEK indicating the internal resolution on the M3 platform is about as good as it gets at Belscort.
