    Default mounting spot with veil

I am using an 8500 X50 mounted low for the improved laser detection but i will soon be getting some veil for my car (2000 civic coupe) and was wondering if it would be okay to move the escort up above the rear view mirror and still get a good enough laser warning with the veil?

    Read the FAQ's dude.
With or without Veil mounted high or low you will be lucky to get any warning from your detector in a laser encounter.

x2, I have the exact same car (model) and I can assure you even with my LaserShield and Veil, PT's are long and swift on my car... jammers are a must.

Veil and LaserShield are complimentary items for laser jammers, not radar detectors.

go for a jammer, you will be lucky to get a laser detection off the 8500 x50 when mounted that high

Veil is great however, your lucky if it gives you the protection you want. Mounting the RD high or low I agree with the others that you will be lucky if you get the laser detection either way. Invest in a jammer if you want the laser protection.

Yea i am planing on getting some blinders for my car. I know laser exists in Phoenix but have yet to see any, so i was going to get some veil as a temporary countermeasure against laser.

Is the x50 bad at detecting laser when mounted high compared to the valentine? because getting a V1 is the next thing i was planning on getting...

Veil doesn't work like that. It helps a jammer. Alone, it's nothing but $100 bucks out of your pocket. That's like buying bullets, but no gun.

Perhaps we haven't been clear here. IT DOESN'T MATTER! If you are concerned about laser, get a jammer. Period. The reason radar detectors are called RADAR Detectors is because that's what they are for. Laser -- despite manufacturer claims -- is not even the slightest consideration for a radar detector.

    Again, read the FAQ.
