Default My first radar detector, poor HS kid.

Hey everyone, I'm looking to buy my first radar detector, and I need something under $230ish. I have done some research, and I've read good things about Bel's RX65, which I can find used in my price range on ebay. However, I would like some opinions from you all, since you have so much personal experience. I don't care about something filtering out false alerts or anything like that. If I get an alert, I'll slow down, and won't care if it was real or not, lol. Just need something reliable, and cheap enough for me to afford. What do ya'll suggest?

Save more money and buy higher quality detector. Do not buy a detector from anyplace that is not an authorized seller. You will not get any warranty work. RD are very sensitive electronic devices so the tendency to have them repaired is likely. You will want to have warranty work. Beltronics and Escort are the same company. The differences are the look and sound of the detectors. I like my Redline. The 8500x50 I received was also nice. You may be able to find that at a good price. The Bel 995 is on sale at radarbusters.com for $229.95. This is a good price. I cannot speak to the quality of this detector.

Look into Whistler products; they're supposed to be top-notch and should be in your price range.

I def recomment the Vector 955 or 995 (better range).

RadarBusters has the best prices. Call and ask for a discount.

Escort C65 is cheaper at many places than a RX65, identical RD.

Also OP, please do not buy a Whistler, you would be wasting your money.

Bel/Escort is the only way to go, the tests have proven this.

Look into buying a Refurb 8500 for $150.00. I believe it comes with a six month warranty.

The refurb 8500s on eBay are not the x50s, they about equal to a 955 I hear.

The 8500 is what you want and it is alot better than the 955. The 8500 is more responsive and alot more range.
