I bought a cheapo Cobra for my '09 E350 to hopefully keep my mind on the speedo when I might stumble upon small berg speed traps. Seems that most of what I read indicated that low on the windshield was the position of choice to catch laser, so that's where it is mounted.
However, I stumbled on some spray paint my wife bought for a project last year and confirmed that it was a near exact match for the Merc's interior. Being a DYI guy I took it apart (comes apart easy, the clamshell top and bottom, and front and back lenses are not glued), primed it AND the cable with Krylon Fusion (for plastic), and then followed up with Rustoleum Painter's Touch in Nutmeg Satin.
I've attached a photo; it looks very slick in person, IF a visible RD can be considered a good thing. But then melting into the dash isn't a bad thing; I think I may try painting the suction cups, too.
I just ordered a Whistler PRO-78SE for my other car, with a similar interior color - hope it will also come apart easily, too.
