Default I have in itch to upgrade my detector! 9500ix or GX 65?

I have an itch to upgrade in the next month. Main reason is there are so many G*D D@mn K band door openers, my 8500 X50 falses 20x a day now. Dont get me wrong, 8500 is still a dynamite detector, but these door openers are hard to get past....

If i use a the $80 trade in, plus sell my 8500 X50 outright, I can purchase a new one at a reasonable rate. Now which to get, as I am leaning toward the bel:

    • GX 65 is about $30 cheaper and has GPS with a red display (better for me). Plus I like the audio alerts of BEL better than Escort
    • I have the escort smart cord built in already to my car. I don't see any issue with using the cord with the bel.
    • I think either unit will not sound an alert if in front of a store and stopped or moving slowly (<15 mph). Another Plus!

    Thanks!

just curious do you have two 8500 x50s as for the escort cord it will work just fine with the GX65, both detectors are basically the same when it comes to alerts, the only real difference between the two is the voice alert with bel, and and you can lock out alerts with both detectors accept the GX65 you have to manually lock it out, the 9500ix will automatically lock it out

An Escort 9500i is $20 cheaper than a GX-65, has a red display, but can't be loaded with the database to alert to speed cameras and red light cameras. Additionally, if you order the Escort now it comes with a $50 "accessory pack" that includes a cigarette lighter smart cord (probably not useful for you) and a super cup mount.

Any of them will work with your existing wiring.

Can't speak to the GX65 first hand, but the 9500ix is a great performer and you will not be disappointed.

I have the GX65, It lacks the auto lockout of the IX. That could be a good thing or a bad thing. I personally would prefer to have the auto lockout but without it I do know what gets locked out. I prefer the red display though. I bought mine when Circuit City was going out of business so I had the choice of the GX65 or a Cobra which I knew I wanted nothing of. I originally thought the GPS would be useless but have grown quite fond of it. Now I commute through Maryland and with their large network of redlight cameras it is really helpful.

    Green: Just one unit.

Auto lockout is cool, but not important.

X50 is already amazing. Is the range or ability to detect I/O better than the x50?

    How old is your X50?

The old X50's used to use what is called an 'S7' antenna... and the GX-65, 9500I/IX (current X50's) ALL now use an M4 antenna platform.

The old S7 platform seems (to many) to have: Better off-axis detection (important for hills/trees in your area)... and better I/O or rather: Q/T detection. Furthermore the ramp-up is flawless. The M4 seems to excel in straight-line performance... which where I live is virtually pointless.

M4 platforms also seem more stable than the older S7... meaning often times: less repairs.

I have rev 6.5 (been in for service 2x).

I have to say the straight line performance is crazy (I think I made a post some time ago with a 3.9 mile KA warning). Around the corners and such has been very good too...

The ramp up on mine has always been puzzling; There is rarely a ramp up, more a medium beeping and a full alert.

Does the newer versions fix this?

Ramp up is the same and sensitivity is the same. Your just adding features.

Yup, your decision is solely features at this point, because your platform is the same of any detector you have/are looking at.
