    Default Need Upgrade from 8500

So I'm looking for a radar detector to replace my 8500. I can get a returned Valentine for $359, a Escort 9500ix for $449, or the Escort Redline for $449. What would be my best choice? I do mostly city driving but know 95% of the police hiding spots in my city and don't drive too fast. I will be doing alot more highway driving as I go off to college 200 miles away from home.

    My 2 cents.

For primarily city driving, I would recommend the 9500ix.

For mostly highway driving, I would recommend the V1 for all out sensitvity.

My first choice would be the V1 and the second choice is the Redline.

since it sounds like you will be doing mostly HWY driving, I would say go for the V1 which would probably be your best bet

I have always wanted a V1 but then there are so many other choices, I can never make my mind up. The 9500ix with the GPS feature or the Redline that's pretty new. I always come back to the V1 and wonder if its going to be to sensitive for my liking. My first RD was 2 years ago when I was 16. My parents wouldn't let me have one so my uncle and I hard wired a cheap cobra up above the mirror in my VW. That was very sensitive. Every 5 seconds it was going off but I didn't really mind it. Then I wanted an upgrade so I bought a referb 8500. After. Over a year of hiding the cobra I got the passport and they found it. Now I'm pretty sure they are going to let me get one since I haven't slowed down. Haha

After owning a Valentine One, Escort 8500, Escort Redline, and Whistler XTR-690SE....I would get a V1.

What is everyone's thoughts on the Redline? This is kind of rhetorical but I like weighing out all the possible options before spending a lump some of money.

a redline is going to give you on average the longest range in detection out of all the detectors plus it will help out if you ever go to VA since it is undetectable by any of today's RDDs however it isn't the most reliable when it comes to Q/T and at times can miss out on an I/O as well, which are commonly used on HWY

True on the Q/T but the Redline sure offers great detection.
