    Default Please Remember.....

You were new to counter measures at one time as well.

Sorry for the Long rant in advance. Hope this doesn't sound like I am trying to be bossy, if it does I apologize, but I felt this issue needed to be addressed.

Hey everyone I just wanted to make a post for everyone, specifically towards long time members to please show some courtesy towards newer members here on the forum. I may not have been a member for to long, but I have seen some things that here at Radarbusters.com we do not appreciate being posted. Things such as using unprofessional words towards brand new members of the forums.

Please keep in mind that these brand new members may not have been using the systems as long as some of you have, so they may not know the unwritten rules that most of the forum members know. The best example I can give for this and the number one issue where I see new members being insulted is when it comes to JTG. If a member new or old states that he JTG and did not shut it off even though he had plenty of time, please keep your criticism constructive. Please refrain from using words and/or phrases such as "stupid, idiot, what were you thinking, someone please take this guy's unit away from him, etc, etc"

When I first joined this forum I felt extremely intimidated, many of you had way more experience and knowledge then I will probably ever have, but I felt confident in the information that I had been given personally from RadarRoy during a one on one training. There was a piece of information I once posted and I had so much negative feedback on the thread that I kept myself off the forum for a few weeks, feeling that my knowledge and or comments where not welcome. This is not something that we want other members to feel.

This forum is made for people to learn how to work their equipment and what equipment may be best for them to buy, so please remember that most new members are in fact not only new to the forum but new to counter measures and are here to learn all they can. If we insult them whether how small it may seem of an insult, they may just up and leave the forum with out learning anything new.

Joking around is one thing, but when you intentionally try to make someone feel for lack of a better word "unintelligent" then that is something that is not acceptable. Please remember to give new members Constructive Criticism.

    Sorry again for the rant.

I fear that soon this will be a sought after commodity due to its rareness.

I can certainly be accused of doing this (likely why this thread was started actually)... so in that respect I am sorry for it...

But what I will not apologize for
is commenting on inexcusable behavior because a lack of common sense on a posters half (especially new ones)...

I'd say 99.5% of the time, when someone (read: new member) gets chewed-out it is because they have not read all the stickies OR used the SEARCH function properly before posting.

If you cannot give us the respect to READ ALL the stickies and use the search-function before you post questions/remarks etc that have been covered dozens of times, I will not give you the respect of a congenial post as a reply... but I often give them the answer they are searching for anyways!

Being new is no excuse for being oblivious (just as being oblivious of a law is no excuse to break it)...

If you think this forum is bad, you are in for a rude awakening on other forums... this forum is one of the most lenient I have ever been a part of when it comes to new users NOT getting chewed-out (and or banned) for their lack of research before posting...

If new users read stickies/used the search-function, not only would they get their answers much quicker, it would be much friendlier...

    Analogy:
If I went onto a CB forum and one of my first posts/threads went something like this:

Title: "How come no one talks to me!?!"
    Thread:
-Jeez guys, I love the CB and when I get on I always say "Breaker 1-er 9-er, Break 1-er 9-er true Apple here, I got new curly locks on this rig and want to Grab Bag!

How come no one responds to me, is my CB working correctly?"

Not only would they say you have diarrhea of the mouth, and that you sound like a fool (in not such kind words), you'd be lucky to get just chewed out and not banned.

Couldn't agree more. I may be new to this forum, but not forums in general. There are some out there where the only response to be had is "Do a search". So far I don't even recall seeing that reply on here yet, but of course I haven't been here that long. I've seen several posts already that would have either been deleted, locked, or not answered on other forums.

    Repost. http://www.radardetector.net/forums/...e-request.html

My thoughts sent via PM, as I'm starting to take these as a slap in the face to the members that aren't new.

Yes the bar is set high here, but the quality of information that comes from that is better for it as a result.

FURTHERMORE (Besides all of the above):
    - I would also like to point out the fact that some new members need reading comprehension skills... are we supposed to teach them those too?
    If someone says:
"Your stupid". It DOES NOT mean YOU ARE STUPID. It is simply something you posses -or are acting in profile with- (at that moment, or at a previous time). I can also say your car, your dog, your chair, and or your radar detector. It is against the forum rules to say something someone possesses now?
"You're stupid" is a personal insult because it is saying the PERSON IS stupid... not that they act like it or they possessed it. You+are.

    Reading comprehension for new members...

Needless to say, I guess you're correct... just ignore those who choose to ignore forum rules (number-10), if they can't read forum rules, and all the stickies, they don't deserve any response at all (they shouldn't be allowed to post at all in the first place truthfully)..., rather then a snide (but true) remark followed by the response they are looking for. Good point.
