    Default Ka range sensitivity?

Are most detectors equally sensitive across the entire Ka band range or are some bands harder to detect?

I ask because in testing out the 9500IX, I got over 2 mile warning on 35.5 the other day, then yesterday I got less than .3 mile range on 34.7.

The 34.7 was facing away from me and I did not get a warning until i could see him, I measured the .3 mile range from the point where I passed him until the 9500IX quite alerting.

By the way, FHP was running 34.7 and local Pinellas County sheriff was running 35.5.

Normally35.5 is tougher to detect but the 9500 series is pretty consistent across the board, and Usually better with 34.7.
The 34.7 encounter was short because he was facing away. I have had the same results with the same scenario with the best RD's made.

set my golden eagle to range 2-3 and put the antenna facing forward and see what happens

34.7 is normally easier to detect with most detectors than 33.8 or 35.5. The SE series Whistlers appear to pick up 35.5 better than 34.7. This is the only detector line I have used that appears to perform better on 35.5 than 34.7.

I am still trying to decide if the 9500IX is sensitive enough for me. The good news is my lengthy daily commute gives me plenty of opportunities to test it out.

I have a 20 mile one way commute. Problem is going into work the traffic is so heavy, I rarely get up to the PSL. Getting off work at midnight is great for LEO radar hunting. In the last month I have encountered about the same amount of DWI check points as Radar encounters.

Mine is 60+- miles (20 rural, 38 interstate, 2 city). The Skyway bridge is the FHP's haunt, random sheriffs here and there. I have to say I love the Spec mode on the 9500IX.

I still dont know about the sensitivity on my 9500 either. Its SO damn quiet. Almost to a fault. Then when it does go off, sometimes ill get great range. Yesterday i picked up a K band radar sign almost a mile away on the interstate. Then, i had a statie surprise me with some 34.7 Ka C/O a bit later that was probably only .2 miles on a straight road. And he would have nabbed me if the other cars around me didnt mask my speed. In fact, he did turn around after he passed which gave me a scare.

EDIT: BTW, ive noticed when i detect 35.5 the 9500ix seems to do better as well. Not much help though, as 34.7 dominates here. Staties use it almost exclusively.

Facing away is pretty hard to detect. Just be careful if the LEO has a rear antenna too.
