Default % of People Using RDs

Just curious--Has anyone seen any articles, research, or studies that estimate the number or percentage of radar detector users in the U.S.? I could not find one publicly available. I ask because it seems like a small percentage overall. My unscientific guesstimate is less than 10% of drivers.

I imagine Escort Radar, Inc. has access to such information through commissioning a study or trade/industry publications. I'd think they'd want to know this in forecasting market growth and penetration for its products.

I probably should have worded my question a little differently. I meant are there any "authoritative" studies by a reputable research firm that analyzes this part of the consumer products market. Rather than people's speculation. Most industries have studies prepared by firms like Forrester Research, which estimate historical and future industry sales and market shares. That's really what I am asking. However, they are typically expensive to purchase if available. If Escort or other RD companies were publicly traded instead of private, you could likely get some information from their 10K filed with the SEC.

This is probably a question better posed to Escort Rep or Radar Roy, but I thought to give it a shot!

    ^^^^

Well Michael B the Whistler rep says it is between 7-10% in the one thread, and I am fully inclined to believe him...

I'd say he is spot on and has (or had when it was posted) a very real idea of how prevalent they are considering his line of work (I am sure Whistler has done research before).

7-10% sounds about right. I would estimate the same percentage of those users are actually using them properly. The rest are running cheap Cobras or otherwise.

Yea it seems like about 90% of RD users run Cobra's or some other crappy brand. I think there are a small number a people who actually have a quality RD and use it properly, and have basic understanding how radar/laser works.

The % of people that actually run a RD that will help them is 1-2%. Most of that 6-7% figure is cheap detectors that are of little or no benefit to the end user.

Of that 1-2% that run RD maybe 10% of them run jammers.

When I go out and spend hours shooting one of my lidar units I may see 1 or 2 cars at the most running RD's and have never run across a jammer other than at a test.
Valentine One (3.858 Ice Cream Truck, 3.812 in Vette)
4 Head LI (On Vette) (7.11 CPU Regular heads front, HP Heads on the rear)
    9500ci (On Vette)

LI Quad (On Ice Cream Truck)

LI Dual (On SRX, 7.06 CPU)

ProLaser II, ProLaser III, Stalker LZ-1, LTI Marksman & Laser Atlanta "R" (looking for an Ultralyte LRB)

    2008 Corvette Z-51 Coupe

    Escort 9500 ix (Cadillac SRX)

That sounds right to me. It would be interesting to know why more folks don't use even inexpensive ones. And he premium RDs are in line with or less costly than most car options. And it is the only one that can save folks money. I get the impression a lot of people think they are a relic of the 80s or not useful. My speculation is that they are too noisy due too falses for most people. They'd rather risk the occasional ticket.
