Vector 955 or Passport 8500?

Hello all,

Im kinda new to this radar dectector thing but I'm about to purchase my first radar detector and I'm torn between two right now and I need to hear what you radar detector virtuoso's think.

I can get a refurbished Vector 955 for $100 Shipped, while the refurbished Escort Passport 8500 x50 is $150 Shipped.

I hear great things about both detectors (although the 955 is $50 cheaper) and did a basic search on the forums and I couldn't find a conclusive answer....

Which of these is a better bargain?

Where would you be purchasing from? I have yet to see refurbished Vectors from the factory nor the X50 @ $150 direct from the factory. That said, I'd get the 8500 (non X50) for $150+s/h from Escorts fleabay store.

Yes you got it, the Passport 8500 is on Escort's ebay site whereas the Vector 955 is on Ecost.com...

Looks like 8500 is getting more votes though..... is there a huge difference between the original 8500 vs the 8500 X50?

The original 8500 uses the S7 platform and the 8500 X50 uses the M4 platform. Time to do some reading:
