Thread: 9500ix or V1?

  1. #1

    Default 9500ix or V1?

after reading reviews i figured the 9500ix was about as good as i could get. yet the last couple of hours ive seen quite a few videos testing laser or K band where the ix was slower in almost all cases. sometimes missing completely.

    i can get a 9500ix blue for 300 or an upgraded v1 for 250.

i really wanted the gps technology but for pure detection it looks like a v1 for me.

side by side comparisons in unbiased tests seem to all favor the v1.

or can anyone enlighten me otherwise?

The ix is good for the city but lack the detection range of the V1. Although both detector is good but you will get better range out of the V1. The V1 is a good all around detector and you want be disappointed. On the ix it will cut out all of the false that you will get around the city and after it learn the false it will be pretty much silent. I will advise you to keep read all of the sticky and then pick the best one for you.

The ix go for about $500 but might be able to get a discount if you pm greenradar and a new V1 will go for about $400. Please do yourself a favor and don't get it use or on fleabay to get a V1.

thanks. i found a couple sellers locally with these. the guy with the ix needs money since hes out of work and i really wanted that one but i dont think it stacks up on what matters most to me and thats detection.

i like all the bells and whistles but thats just not enough.

the v1 is up to date with pop2 and 1.8 and going for 250. was 350 but since euro mode isnt programmed they knocked off 100. not sure i need that.

maybe ill buy the ix as well and just sell it. hell maybe ill keep both.

If you can get the V1 with 1.8 ver. for $250 you better get it or let me know and I will get it. Euro is only for like in Europe or Au, getting both is a good deal for the price.

Just because a V1 is a 1.8, doesn't mean it's new. In fact, I believe that Euro mode came out on the 3.863 revision over two years ago, so it's at least that old. The odds of a V1 over two years old needing to be sent in for repair before you can even start using it, is well over 50/50.

Version 1.8 has many revisions, some better than others. For instance, mine is a version 1.8, revision 3.812, which is at least six years old. It detects very well, but cannot detect pop, is not very reliable and needs to be sent in for repair on a fairly regular basis. I had a revision 3.864 that I bought two years ago that was not that great. The latest is 3.872 and it's pretty good by all accounts.

My point is, without knowing the revision, you don't know what you're getting. You could be buying a five year old V1 that can't detect anything.

I would take a 9500ix, which you know is pretty new, since they have been out for less than two years, over a V1 that you know is over two years old and will probably need to be sent in for repair before you can even start using it.

For what a person puts at risk when they speed, trying to save 150 by buying a used V1 makes no sense to me. Pony up, get a brand spanking new one for 400, or a returned one for 350. Buying used off anyone just ain't worth the potential problem you'll have. Who's to say how they treated it; i.e. left to bake in a car or dropped or fried by running a radar source too close to it, so many things that you can't necessarily tell by looking at it. Get a new one, treat it well, don't bake it, and it'll look after you just the way you no doubt want to demand of it.

ah i see. so just checking the serial won't tell me that. the site says:

V1 Description: Radar circuitry known in-house as V1.8-POP2. This is our latest and best performer on both radar and laser. Of interest to those who drive in Europe, the latest V1 version also has a Euro Mode.

Upgrade Recommendation: For operation in North America, you already have our best. If you drive in Europe, you may chose to add our new Euro Mode which improves protection on photo radar as it is used in the E.

I saw the detector and its in great shape cosmetically. how do i check firmware version?

i think ill get both and perform my own tests. i can always sell whichever i like least.

I believe that is a firmware revision somewhere between 3.824 and 3.858, basically 2 - 5 years old or so, but that's just off the top of my head. Maybe one of the V1 zombies will correct me if I'm wrong.

Hold the mute button in as you turn the detector on and keep holding it in for like five seconds. Then, release it and press it again. The firmware revision will scroll on the display.

Be careful though. This is tough to test, because the 9500ix has a lot of false alert suppression built in on X and K band. The best test is to find a Ka band source, but that's not easy.

yeah ill just roll with both and see which i like better with features as well as detection. maybe the ix will sway me but i think it will be hard to give up the v1.

arrows and better detection is what i would want most but ill post my results eventually and see if my opinion changes.
