This may not be new to some of you, but this is the first reference to KA band satellite on the web at dbsinstall .com:
IN 2006 DIRECTV began using a new type of satellite technology, KA-band. The KA-band provides DIRECT TV with the ability to broadcast hundreds of additional channels on satellites positioned very close to their existing satellites. This allows for multi-satellite usage with a single dish. The KA-band channels are broadcasted using the MPEG4 video compression standard for even greater channel capacity. Not all DIRECT TV receivers are MPEG4 compatible. For more information about MPEG4 receivers visit the DIRECT TV receivers web page.

This not an endorsement for Direct TV.
Perhaps djrams can add to this post, he has mentioned the KA frequency before. DJ does add a lot to this forum--Thanks!
