    Default Pulse radar

I recently got a Bel Vector 995 and have been getting very poor performance on the detection range on ka band in town. Someone suggested to me that most likely the leo's here in town use what is called pulse radar. Can someone please explain what pulse radar is exactly and how your detector will react to it ? I know what pop, instant on, and constant on radar guns are but am having a hard time finding any info on pulse radar. Any comments would be greatly appreciated, thanks!!!

I most likely am wrong, but for some reason I thought that instant on did not leak any signals from the gun until the leo pulls the trigger and causes your detector to go crazy thus making you crap your pants. I am getting weak signals from the leo in town even when I pass right by him. So far my detector has not went above 1/2 strenght on the meter. I hope my detector is not a lemon.

That is the case. But there was one model of gun that "leaked" a little to give a patrol car reading when in "standby" mode. Dunno if it was Ka... Jim knows

I think the problem with the Bel Vector 995 and the Escort 8500 X50 is the Superheterodyne, VTO radar receiver. The RX65 and Escort Passport 8500 have the Superheterodyne, GaAs FET VCO radar receiver. Combine this with what you know about the USA vs Intl debate aka Narrow vs Wide Band Ka sensitivity and you have the solution... too much time in analysis!

I finally got a leo running constant on ka on the interstate and my ka range was 1.1 miles. At least I know everything is fine now and I will not be returning my detector.

Yea, as I said to this (in the other thread where you posted it); about 1 mile is a solid Ka detection on the Interstate, and you should be happy with that detector.

I thought Pulse was sending the radar out in pulses, making it harder to detect, almost like POP... but 1990's style...?

I remember with a Whistler, having a cop go by on a one lane in each direction road. It went to full strength and said pulse. I've been instant oned by Troopers plenty of times and have never heard it go to pulse.

Whistlers report PULSE whenever a signal suddenly appears at 9/9
