I'm looking at upgrading from my 9500ix to a built-in M3 setup. I already have an LI Dual for front protection so am not really interested in the ZR4 portion of the 9500ci. My dilemma is this - should I purchase a 9500ci from an auto dealership for significantly less than retail (new, in box, authorized dealer) or should I purchase an STi-R Plus from an overseas dealer? Here are my concerns:
Somewhat shady. The price is great and the sales guy says he's an authorized dealer (auto dealership is listed on Escort's website as an AD), but as always there must be some reason why it's so cheap. I don't really need laser protection but could always mount the ZR4s in the rear. I'd really like to know I have the full backing of Escort's warranty and updates.
Shipped from overseas. The seller (authorized in his country) says he can load the US defender database on it. I 'may' have a valid US warranty, but 'will' have a valid warranty with the seller if I ever need repairs. The detector should be updateable through Detector Tools but others on this forum have had trouble doing so.
I'd really rather have the Bel over the 9500ci but the long distance sale concerns me. For what it's worth, both are being offered at exactly the same price. Any thoughts?
