    Default For those in California...

It's illegal to have anything attached to the windshield in the middle. Do you still do it anyway? If not, where do you put your radar detector and how? My dashboard is a rough surface and not smooth like the windshield surface. Also, I don't like to use one of those sticky pad. Is there any alternative?

    Try visor mounting it.

It's technically illegal but it's very, very rarely enforced. I only personally know of one person who got a ticket for it, and that was a dick cop who wrote up every little thing on his car.

I've been pulled over many times and even had cops comment on my radar detector and never been given a ticket for it. Mine is right in the middle of the windshield below the RVM.

    Basically, don't worry about it.

Cool. I'm not gonna worry about it. I rather pay a fine for a correctable offense than have points on my record for speeding.

It's illegal to speed but we all do it anyways. Ive been pulled over 2 times with my RD mounted on the mirror and the cop didnt say a thing about it. Attitude is everything....

I put my V1/Redline in a visor pouch, serves couple of different purposes from making it hard to see from the outside and keeping it out of direct sunlight.
Also I highly, highly doubt any LEO will pull you over for having your RD suction cupped to the window but you never know when you meet the LEO that's having a bad day, just less potentially less drama to have to deal with by not having it suctioned to the window.

Technically it's not illegal to attach a CLEAR substance to the windshield, so as long as you use clear suction cups, and the RD it's self isn't touching the windshield, it should in theory be legal.
