Default I got busted today for having my lasershield

Today, i encountered a laser speed trap.

I was not speeding coz i knew it was there. I have veil & lasershield. My v1 alerted for approx 5 seconds, until i was within 500 feet of the LTI ultralite.

Then up ahead was the road block where they stop the cars, they let me go through, but then as i was going through, one of the officers was staring at my plate, and then he suddenly points at me and asks me to pull over.

He asks me to get out of the car. I said, whast wrong i wasn't speeding. He showed me my front plate, and asked why is it so strange, it looks blurry from the sides, and it's not as relfective as it should be.

He inspects it and finds the plastic lasershield. I said the plastic is there to prevent the plate from cracking or breaking coz very often i touch the wall in my carpark coz the parking spots are so tight. He gave me a weird look, he didn't buy my story.

He then said it is illegal to have this. He said he has to inspect my car for other illegal stuff. I was like ok......

He points at my detector, and sayz, whats this? I said "its a radar detector! :P "

I told him i know it's legal in HK. Then he said, that depends on if its just a detector or a jammer also.

Then he stepped on my gas pedal, reved the engine, checked my lights/horn, and he opened my glove compartments and carefully inspected other areas. Then he popped my hood.

First thing he did was look underneatht he car's front and look for a jammer. He knew exactly where to find a jammer, he looked on the left and right near the headlights and to the sides of the license plate. He then inspected the hood and inside my car for other stuff.

He gave me a warning at the end, and said to remove the shield asap, and said he'll notify the transport department, and they might ask me to send my car in for inspection. He said to take this time to remove all other illegal stuff in my car. He smiled at me.

He said, the RD is not much use, and it should false all the time, i was like no i get 10 seconds warning on the photo radasr, and in the city i can turn off X and K bands.

So.....now what, should i leave it on, or take it off? He even saw my lights and said why ar eyou lights so black? I didn't reply him.

If i do get a jammer and remove my lasershiled, that's also dangerous coz he knew exactly where to look for a jammer!

If you ask me I wouldnt risk it!!!
The lasersheild is 20 USD but a jammer is 250 -500 USD I would not risk that at all if He was that curious to see any other ilegal stuff, ma that a big difference to lose 20 vs 500 dollars. I would just stick with the veil!!!
I am surprised that he could notice It so much I have officers stare at mine and I havent been pulled over yet... knock on wood!!
If they knew where to look I wouldnt risk it at all!!!

did he ask about your dark head lights?

i would remove the lasershield and veil your plates!

if they ask why is it so dark, tell them its dirty!

I know there is a stealth kit for the jammers but I dont think they would help you with this kind of inspection. Then you'd risk loosing the $300 kit along with the jammers.

Play it cool for awhile. Leave the shield on to see if this was a fluke thing. Can you use a plain plastic cover but Veil it? It would appear as a tinted cover only.

Leave the Veil on the headlights. For good effect, you may consider allowing the nose of your car to get a little bit dirty. Makes the whole "dirty headlights" story more believable.

The detector is legal, don't even think about removing it. As for the Lasershield, I refuse to buy one for my rear plate (no front plates in AZ) because I routinely hear stories at school about kids who have plate covers or Protector stickers being pulled over for obstructing the plate.

If you can Veil over your plate without it being extremely noticeable, do it, and lose the Lasershield. Odds are the cop was just blowing smoke about reporting you to the transportation department, and if they do catch it again, the worst that would likely happen is they'd ticket you and confiscate it. Sounds like the cop was a grade-A A-hole, and he was probably just getting a power trip by threatening you.

I was under the impression that laser jammers are legal in all 50 states. Am I wrong?

Nope, several ban them, Illinois being one. The original poster lives in Hong Kong, and apparently they're illegal there as well.
