    Default Noob Question on calibration

ok, I'm not an electronics person but would like to know if RD offers the feature of self-calibration, why are we still required to send in for recalibration as often seen discussed in the forums? Also, how do we test if re-calibration is required. Thanks.

We have to send it in because it is not a problem that could be 'fixed by the detector'. (It occured most noteably on older versions of the RX65/X50)...and (can) happen as (any) detectors age.

You dont really test if the RD needs re-calibration...you just hope it doesnt, with detectors (like [but probably not limited to] the x50 or RX65) the 'ServiceRequired message' (or something similar) comes up to tell you that it is out of commission... On other detectors you have to either:

A)Notice odd detection from the detector...(often times this will happen where detection becomes spotty to the many previous encounters.)
B)Have an LEO target you (assuming his radar gun wasnt out of tune) and tell you he did so and your detector didnt do jack and you recieve a ticket...so you send it back only to find out it had fallen out of tune.

Just out of curiousity, how long would it take a V1 to fall out of tune?
