    Default Excursion - So Calif

Hello to everyone. Can the So Calif owners or owners with the big vehicles suggest what would be a radar detect. solution since I have the rather large Ford Excursion thats lifted (4.5)" with 35" tires. I drive through to the 15 to vegas to the 10 down to Palm Springs to a few toll roads in Orange County. I just dont know what the leo's are using out here. Been looking at the Escort CI to the Beltronics STi-R Plus, not sure what the differance there is yet. Also looking at the Redline which also get alot of thumbs up from owners here too...

See this is your first post. Welcome to the forum. You should visit the introduce yourself section and introduce yourself. For starters, check out this link http://www.patzcatz.com/radarbands.html which should have information on what sort of speed measuring equipment is being used in the area you are. As for buying a detector, I don't believe you can buy a STI-R plus in the US (Europe only), maybe an STI-R. If you need maximum range, exceed the speed limit by a lot, do a lot of highway driving and are not worried about falses, check out the V1 or Redline. For RLC and speed cameras and minimizing falses, a 9500ix or GX65 may suit you better. I have a GX65 myself but because of my driving habits and mostly city driving, did not need maximum range as a primary consideration.

How serious are you about protecting your vehicle? For something that big, it's going to cost you some serious money and effort. I saw an F-150 last night that was entirely repainted with what appeared to be black Rhino Liner. Now that guy was committed!

The CHP on the 241 uses mostly Ka but I'm seeing more and more LIDAR usage, as well. My V1 has served me well, but a LIDAR jammer is a must.

For Laser protection you would need a four jammer system up front and make an effort to stay on top of alerts so you don't miss an alert and accidently Jam To Gun, it's very suspicious looking for cops to get an error on large vehicles especially trucks.

For radar protection the Valentine One is probably your best bet and your lift will help with detection there as well. It's chatty around town but out on the open road it's priceless.

    thanks guys for your input.

I think swarga hit the nail on the head. Most likely KA and Lidar is what the Leos are using in my areas of travel.

I have a dealer that outside the us that will ship to me the ST-r Plus
Having no background in this stuff will it give me a better advantage for my high profile Diesel Excursion then say the V1? or a Redline?

So for the jammer are u thinking the LI Quad?

Make sure you conceal the jammer heads well if you go that route. Laser jammers are illegal in CA, and while most LEOs out here wouldn't know a laser jammer from a "parking sensor" from a piece of dog poo taped to your grill, you don't want to be the lucky winner who finds the one that does know what those little boxes on your front end are for.

Also be aware that it's technically illegal to mount anything from your windshield in CA, including RDs (though there is an exemption for GPS). Citations for this are incredibly rare (if they happen at all), but I've got mine visor-mounted anyway. I'm a fan of not giving an LEO any "easy out" if they realize that they have nothing else to write you for.
