Default RD Mounted Height vs. Detection

I don't hardwire my V1 because I'd like to have the flexibility to move it from one vehicle to another when needed although it can be hardwired.

Now, I'm curious how much difference in mounted height will start to have any effect in detection. I drive a 1st gen Toyota Matrix lowered about 3 inches. But it looks like it picks up less strength of the same radar signal every time I use the V1 in my friend's Honda Civic. I know mounting position will play the most part, but... does the windshield angle has anything to do with signal strength?

Hard-wiring your V1 has NO impact upon the ability to move the unit from vehicle-to-vehicle. My V1 is hardwired high in my Honda-Civic (Above the RVM)... and I can change it over to another vehicle in less than a minute. No sure what you perceive hardwiring a unit as... but it does nothing to ability to move it from vehicle to vehicle.

Technically, it might take less time if you have it hardwired in one vehicle to take it to the next, since in the second vehicle you can leave the coiled-cord and the visor-mount there... etc.

    Regardless... mount high.

Windshield angle has nothing to do with it. The only thing that would have anything to do with affecting range is if you have a metallic tint on the windshield. Some vehicles do have this as OEM equipment, especially chevy and ford minivans. You can tell this because when you are looking at the windshield from the outside, it will have a slight, pinkish color, even without polarized Oakley's.

I have my V1 hardwired in my Impala and I can take it out and put it in another vehicle in less than a minute also. I just use a different power cable and the cigarette plug when I take it to a different vehicle. I also ordered an extra mount and the carrying case specifically for the purpose of traveling and being able to pull it from my vehicle at the airport and take it so I can throw it in my carry on to be able to put it in my rental

I will also echo AirMoore's statement:
    Regardless...MOUNT HIGH.
    Always.

    Here's a sticky thread about windshields.http://www.radardetector.net/forums/...icle-list.html

Go high and make sure your V1 is level and has a good view looking fwd and rear and all should be well. Also make sure it's not turned to the right or left but looking straight fwd down the road.

I have that really dumb dot matrix above my rear view mirror, would mounting my 9500ix behind it (via visor clip going to my roof) affect my range? I wanna keep it toward the center of the car to help off axis detection so I was curious if my having it next to my mirror, away from the dot matrix, would give me better range than if i tried going for more stealth in putting it behind the dot matrix.

this is a fellow member's setup. i have my 9500ix like this, but on the other side of the RVM. I dont know if you can see but I'm asking if i can put my 9500ix above the RVM where those Dots are w/o affecting performance

sorry to thread jack. it'd be a waste to open a new one i think...

^I wouldnt use suction cup mount, i'd use the visor mount, and have the clip go above my roof liner. it fits easily (i got the idea from a buddy at a car meet lol)

It shouldnt effect performance at all? Would it be worth moving it? (not that its hard, i'd just have to order the visor clip if i decide to do it)

Im guessing I'm just gonna have to test it on my own eh? Im reading it varies from car to car depending on if the dots are metallic *sigh* I hope mine arent :/

    every vehicle is unique
test your car like this here

obstructions aside; the higher the better
including the benefit of shade; a high mounted detector is more likely to be shaded from the Sun(always good)
