# Thread: how well does a radar work when its pointed 45 degrees away from the target?

1. ## how well does a radar work when its pointed 45 degrees away from the target?

I saw a cop pulled into the median, at a 45 degree angle. This was a sheriff office unit i-71 near columbus ohio.

I got c/o k -band alerts on my valentine one that quickly disappeared entirely once i passed him. I dont know what alert distance i got.

My question is...

if im the cop, how well would my radar work if i was pointed 45 degrees away from the target?

Wouldnt the target have to be real close in order for it to work being that far off?

Finally, i dont want to also discount the fact that he may not have even been using it to measure speed. He could have left it on and been doing paperwork while parked in the median.

He knows that if he clocks someone, he is going to get about 75 percent of the actual speed when in the 10-15 degree beam. He is just watching traffic, getting ready to turn around, being seen, eatin' something, possible holding a laser hand gun getting ready to nail a speeder, resting his eyes, or as you say, paper work. Happy Holidays!

GTO_04 just made a post the last day or so with a link to compute 45 degree angle. Search his recent posts.

Sounds like the LEO wasn't interested in pulling anyone over.
