Default This really has me teed off...

When I drive anywhere for any sort of distance I set my cruise control between 1 @ 8MPH over posted limit normally. This has worked very well for me as it is a nice middle ground between the grannies and the lead foots.

So it is pretty obvious as to where this is going...I got a ticket. You can read the details of how I got the newest ticket in the link below. As you can guess, I am pretty pissed about it due to the circumstances. I haven't had a speeding ticket in 8 years. That ticket 8 years ago was for 36 in a in 25 on a dirt road in the middle of a field that runs next to a cotton field (no houses no nothing just wide open field on a blistering hot day in the south).

So I have a few questions...

    0. Any suggestions to explain to a cop that he doesn't know how to use his equipment or he clocked the wrong person to avoid a ticket? In a PC way obviously for future encounters

    1. Radar detector suggestions. I have read that the V1 is one of the best if not the best one out there. would there be any other recommendations?

    2. Laser Jammer - I have read that it varies greatly on what car you drive what color it is etc. What would you suggest for an 08 Lexus IS. I read something about "Laser Interceptor Generation 8 DUAL Laser Jammer" being one of the better ones.

    front picture -http://www.motortrend.com/auto_shows/coverage/sema/112_2008_sema_show_coverage/photo_204.html

    3. Laser Jammer rear coverage. Would you just install an additional one? It isn't that clear in the FAQ.

    4. How much does this usually cost? How much cutting and drilling will need to be done on the bumper to have this stuff installed.

    5. I do live in a state where laser jammers are legal in (Alabama). Obviously they probably won't look to favorable on me if they see it but if I did get pulled over could they compound my car for some stupid reason? I would assume no as it is "legal" but I didn't think I was going to have a cop give me a ticket for something I wasn't even doing.

I am basing some judgements off of stuff like this that the Laser Jammers do work this well...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YwY0g...eature=related or is this faked some how?

Suggestions on where to buy this stuff?

Obviously a radar/laser jammer won't prevent what went on below and I understand that. It also probably doesn't look good to be coming and asking questions about laser and radar detectors and does make me look as if I was indeed going what the cop indicated. However I am pissed right now and any advantage I can get over this bull**** I will take.

I haven't had a speeding ticket in 8 years. That ticket was for 36 in a in a 25 on a dirt road in the middle of a field that runs next to a cotton field. In the past 8 years I have been pulled over twice before today. 1 was insurance checks at a 4 way stop and 1 was when I was driving home with my car. I had bought the car used from a guy in a different state and drove it back. I was told by my local court office that I had 7 days and as long as I had the bill of sale, title and proof of insurance I would be ok. Cop stops me says he never heard of that and issues me a ticket. I contest it and the judge through it out. No harm no foul in that case.

But what prompted this whole thing was this..

Sorry if this was a double post but it wouldn't let me post this for some reason under a different section.

Welcome! That ticket is really B.S. Are there any points with it? Does it go on your DL?

    To answer your questions:

    0. Not my area.

    1. V1 has great range, however, the escort Redline, 9500ci and Bel Sti-R plus have the most. Each detector has it's pluses and minuses as you'll soon find out.

    2. The LI isn't one of the better jammers out there, it is the best!

    3. No. You need at least two heads on the rear.

    4. What's your definition of a lot? Hopefully no drilling should need to be done.(hey, optimistic thinking can't hurt?)
Prices: can be found at radarbusters.com. You should be able to get 10 percent off of anything since you're a member here. Remember, this is a get what you pay for thing!

    5. If you slow down and shut off the jammer(JTK), you shouldn't have any problems.

    6. Where to buy: radarbusters.com

    7. Avoiding tickets isn't only about having the best equipment. It's about knowing the habits of your leos, making yourself blend in, and most importantly paying attention. I'd say about 75 percent of the time, I see the leo before the V1 even goes off. This isn't because the range is poor, but rather they all use instant on or lidar here. You're eyes are your best countermeasure. If you decide to get all this stuff, you may want to PM member Batman. I think he has something similar to you with a LI and 9500ci.

Hey Kur1J, welcome to the forum, as a retired cop and knowing a few things about radar detectors and the laws, I'll try my best to answer...

!) Why do you think that the officer was wrong in targeting you? One part of the certification of police officers is demonstrating their ability to properly target a vehicle, ie target identification. If you feel that the officer was incorrect and you want to fight it in court you will need to do a little homework. Our radar detector buyers guide has a PDF attachment of one of our forum members who successfully fought his ticket and won in this regard

    2) Radar Detectors, there are a few of them out there and you will get allot of different options here, it comes down to what is right for you! Questions, where do you drive, what type of car do you drive, do you drive mostly highway or city. Again check out our buyers guide on the right side, you'll understand why these questions are important in finding the right detector for YOU

    3) The LI and the Blinder are both top of the line, but again what type of car do you drive and where do you drive?

    4) Rear laser jammer. Well if you drive around the DFW area I'd say yes as they love to shoot you from the rear from overpasses. Otherwise 90% of all laser is shoot to the front. Do you want to save $$ and take a chance of not having a rear jammer, the choice is your to make. Personally I don't

    5) I've been in this industry for over 15 years and have never heard of anyone's car being impounded for having a laser jammer. Just don't be stupid. If the laser jammer goes off, slow down and turn it off. You don't want to go whizzing by an officer jamming him at 90!

    6) Well I'd hope that you would use the banner on the right with my picture of the Santa Suit, get your 10% discount code and then buy from RadarBusters. This will support my efforts in keeping this forum active!

Have any questions visit my review site at www.RadarDetector.org and I have an email form there that you can use to send me a personal email

Welcome to the forum! Everyone on the forum loves LI's so they're great performers. You'd have to read up on the tactics used in your area to see if you need rear jammers. In my area, I've only been hit in the front and I've never taken it in the back. But that just depends on your area.

There are lots of great RD's. Consider your commute in making your decision. If you do lots of rural/highway driving, a V1's a great choice because of the sensitivity, arrows, off axis capability, and much more... If you want quiet, check out the Escort 9500ix. If you want quiet and extreme sensitivity wait for the new Beltronics Sti-r +. It's an installed unit though. If you don't want to do lots of cutting, just buy a windshield unit. Oftentimes the jammers require cutting for optimal mounting... That's why I'm hesitating to get them.

    So what's your commute like?

I think Roy covered everything perfectly.

Officers make mistakes, that the reason I bought my first radar detector, a situation just as you described. Now I want to make sure I am visibly slower than all the vehicles around when there is radar in the area. He probably clocked the other car, which may have had a detector, who slowed and made it look like you were the offending vehicle.

Sorry dude, sounds like you took one for someone else. Get some decent protection before it happens again!!

it sounds like everyone has basically covered everything for ya, the only thing i would add is to never argue with the LEO at the time of being pulled over, just let him issue the ticket and then fight him in court. If you argue with him at the time he initially issued the ticket, you'll stand out more in his memory and there fore when you do go to fight it in court he'll remember you a lot easier then he normally would of.

    Welcome.
A radar detector or laser jammer is just a tool, and the tool is only as good as the person using it, and like anything else in life, there is a huge amount of skill involved in using speed detection countermeasures.
There are some very, very skilled and experienced members on this forum who freely share their knowledge, and this knowledge is, in my book, more valuable than the best radar detector or laser jammer in terms of avoiding tickets.
The smartest driver, running with mediocre equipment, stands a way better chance of avoiding tickets than a dumb or careless driver with the best of equipment.
In order to advise you, we'll need to know more about where you drive, how you drive, when you drive, etc, and you in turn learn what you need to do differently to avoid future tickets.
Once again, welcome to the forum. Read. Study. Think. Ask. Learn. Practice. Succeed.

Welcome the the forum OP.....this is a AMAZING site with great info and ppl...(except some). lol. U will learn a lot of info here and almost become addicted. Personally I like dash mounted units because they are USUALLY cheaper than remote units and they can be moved to another vehical VERY easily....read up before u make a choice. I would go with the v1 and LI. Great setup and if u use ur eyes and a good rabbit, you dhould be good to go
