Default Trading in X50 for V1 (Please don't hate me! :-)

OK all here it goes. I live in a small rural town in Utah where I know most of the public safety types so I really refrain from breaking the local ordinances. (The old you don't s**t where you eat). So most of my "redline" driving is done on the open highway between my town and Salt Lake City...a distance of about 175 miles, which using my RD I can usually make in a little over 2 hours. And I don't speed in the city because it's just plain foolish. So my need is for a RD that gives superior long range Ka detection.

On my drives I have felt (a subjective feeling of course) that I could use a little more sensitivity on the Ka side of things (my RD goes off and then a few seconds later I come across the public safety type) so I enabled POP, which according to Escort would increase the Ka sensitivity. The sensitivity was increased all right, it increased the amount of false alarms as well as false POP alerts which is not used in Utah, and I don't feel that I'm getting any increased Ka range. And I am getting real tired of doing a 360 degree scan to find out where the radar is when the RD goes off.

Sooooo after reading this forum, others, and talking with Valentine, I have decided to make the plunge and try out the V1. Why? Well for one, after viewing the internal photos on this forum, I like the idea of the dual horns of the V1, the enabled 2 band POP, hopefully increased Ka sensitivity, the magnesium case which according to V1 " ... serves as a vault to keep out various electrical interferences from other devices", Ku available, and I really want to try out the arrows. lol!

There you have it...I will keep you all posted as to my "subjective" feelings about my new V1, and please, please be gentle with me!

No one is going to hate you. All three are great detectors. I miss the X50 because of the multiple threat display mode. I love my V1 but also love my RX65. Either way you can not go wrong with any of the awesome products. Thge arrows and dual antennas are AWESOME and very useful. POP protection on the V1 is TOP NOTCH

both great detectors, V1 for highways rx65 for city

I never thought that enabling POP would benefit with Ka range, i definitely have to try that.

In your situation, you are clearly making the right choice. The v1's pop protection is superior to all others, I have never gotten a false POP. I believe the KA band to be the best out there as well. I was on my way to school once around 90-95 with my escort, and it gave me a KA brap, i hit the brakes and steared into the right lane immediatly. As I hit about 70 over a very small hill the cop awaited his next victom. My impression of the KA on the x50 was a not so very good one. The V1's KA alert will give you about 8 seconds warning at about 90mph, which has been the best i've seen.

Yeah this has been my experience as well but keep in mind the X50 has superior filtering and has the AWESOME multiple threat counter. Hopefully when the Escort 8500 X100 comes out it will be able to detect 6ka, 6k and 6X. As a matter of fact the higher the better

One feature i'd really like would be the option to only turn on one band of POP. K-Pop is not used around here, just Ka, so it would be useful to kill out some of the falses from K stuff.

Sethy you keep saying that you have never received a false POP alert with the V1.
How do you know? There is no special warning except for the Junk alert and I believe you have received them.
You still believe that V1 goes to full alert on POP.
V1 does not work this way, its gradient audio just like any other alert.

I do not think the RX65 and X50 cover 2 band POP just one which is Ka POP

I was told multiple times that it would act as if it were a K band instant on radar. (can someone comfirm this?)I say I have never recieved one because I have yet to get an instant on K band without a cop sitting in a speed trap

The thing is, instant on K band off in the distance doesn't go full-alert. So it's not guaranteed that it would go full-tilt when it picks off pop that's not right in your face. Honestly, I look at this as a VERY good thing. Can you imagine how obnoxious it would be if it went full tilt on every quick, weak signal that it thought might be a POP? It would be out the window within a week.
