Great review, you said it right.

For everyone complaining about the mounts of any detector, please look into "Superlock Fasteners". They are available at your local RadioShack Part #64-2360.

I put a few drop of super glue where the mount meets the fastener. I rarely have to change them out. Also be sure to clean the windshield and mount with rubbing alcohol. Let dry before mounting RD.

I've owned a V1 for over 10 years. I switched t0 the Redline and 5-months later it died. It's in for repairs now, stay tuned...

    My observations:

    LIKES:
    • I love the arrows, the auto mute, tones used for bands and the mounting bracket of the V1.
    • I love the off axis KA detection and the TWS feature of the Redline in my area (Northeast Ohio).
    DISLIKES
    • What I don't like about the V1 is it's off axis KA detection. It's not the best and, around corners, can be scary. I don't like how chatty it is in town, but using small "l" and some adjustments to the automute on K helps.
    • What I don't like about the RL is the ramp up (even though mine is newer, I think it's terrible), the auto mute (I like the selectivity of the V1 MUCH better), the mounting bracket, how chatty it is on K-band in town and how heavy it is.
Overall, I would part company with the RL if not for the TWS issue in NE Ohio. My V1 is about useless up here with those pesky drones. Escort did a nice job with filtering those out. My RL is silent on the highway where those are present. Nice work!

    YMMV...

Good observations, its amazing how one really good feature can make a RD great.

Yep, I agree about the observations so that tell me that what's good for one it maybe not good for the other. We know that both are awesome for what they are.

Off axis Ka is a little "iffy" at times, but I've also had some very good off axis encounters. I have had the V1 not alert at all to an off axis encounter, until I crossed an intersection; I'm thinking these may have been 35.5 encounters.

i had a redline and the ramp up sucked and the mounting blows... amazing detection though. i got a V1 cause its cheaper and the arrow. love the bogey counter. i feel as if it is not as sensitive as the redline... still not 100% secure with it yet... i felt like i was with the RedLine... does V1 not detect 35.5?

The Valentine's weakness seems to be Ka 35.5. I've only ran the newest 3.872 version, so the previous versions may be better at detecting it; I'm really not too sure. But, yes, I've had a few very poor encounters with what I believe was 35.5.

Veilguy's TSR review with video. Bookmark the video as it is long. He did not know about the muting feature of the V1 at the time.

    http://veilguy.blogspot.com/2011/01/escorts-traffic-sensor-rejection-tsr.html

I have same speed sensors placed between .8-1.0 mile intervals with 3s muting 7, E, F, and G down it's silent. Throw in real K-band radar or lane guidance and they'll hit high volume occasionally. That's when I know to look out!

Sounds like a V1 off axis 35.5 encounter.

It does. I sure wish I had a second detector with spec mode capable of being used alongside the V1 to confirm these things.
