Default Spectre Radar Detector in Quebec

I am new on this forum and I hope I post in the right section. I have ordered a Radar detector from the States to be used (in States) because I have to travel very often. I know that here in Canada, Ontario Province
is using a lot of Spectre detectors and I'm wandering if Quebec is also using this Spectre detector. I live in Quebec province and I never attempted to use it here because the minimum fine ( if they catch you)
is 300 or 500 dollars. Is anybody knows about Quebec province about
this Spectre detector; I have found a lot concerning the Ontario province,
    nut nothing for Quebec.

I am not 100% sure about the Quebec province, we do have a good amount of Canadians on this board who would be more then willing to help you out though, hopefully they will help you out, just give them time to reply (they should know).

I would, however, assume that if detectors are illegal in your area, the LEO's use Spectre units the find RD users (or they soon will).

Hi welcome to the board. SmartA$$ will reply but I'm going to throw my 2 cents. Yes Quebec uses the same Spectre as Ontario.... Ont is supposed to have about 200 but we rarely see them in the patrol cars. The enforcement is sporadic but they do set up traps for them near the borders. I believe Quebec has almost the same number

But your question suggests that you arent aware of the big news Bel has just released an RD that is not detectable by the Spectres. Avaiable for sale end of Feb its been tested by our members and many of the Canucks on this board have ordered.

Default Spectre Radar Detector in Quebec

Thank you for the answers. I will not using mine here ( Quebec) unless I am very sure if it is safe to do. But I will certainly pay attention to the
new model that you have mentionned in your reply.
I have never read any information here in Quebec, that the cops use
that Spectre detector; nobody here sells radar detector ( mine has been
bought in States and delivered at friends home in States) and also never read any court report ( in newspaper) that the police use that, but anyway I will take care.
    Thank you again

    Salut!

OK as far as I know there are approx 70 Spectre units in the SQ. But I cannot say this for certain.

The fine in Quebec is between "$500 and $1000", which means you are paying from $611 - 1222 with all the "surcharge" and stuff. You also lose the detector. But no demerit points for insurance.

However I think that the potential benefit of using an RD in Quebec outweighs the risk. If you use a detectable (by Spectre) detector intelligently, ex turn off the unit when not in use for a long time (eg traffic jam, red lights, slow) or when you see a "suspicious car" or have a radar alert, and of course mount the detector in such a way that it is hard to see from the outside, but easy for you to grab for removal.

Also the police officer cannot search your person for suspicion of RD. So just take it out and put it in your pocket or something.

It also depends how fast you drive. If you never go more than 120 km/h on autoroute it isn't very useful. It IS useful in those 70 km/h autoroutes though, because you still have to go 120.

If you have bought a RD like Beltronics RX65, Escort Passport 8500 X50, Valentine One (eg US$300-400) I would return it and get one of the Spectre-proof Beltronics STI's.

If you bought a $50 unit then get to know it around the US before you "make the plunge" on an STi. Keep in mind a cheap detector won't help very much against those New York Troopers

Default Spectre Radar Detector in Quebec

    Thank again
I was not aware of this so expensive ticket (500+) and I will just take care of the use I will do with it in province of Quebec.
For the States travel, I usually go in the direction of New York ( I-87)during the night, and no matter the time of day or night I do travel, my Whistler detector indicate 3 or 4 times just between the US border and Albany NY. I do not drive over 70 mph during the night because there is a lot of cops on the I-87 and I always scare that my RD doesn't give enough time to lower my speed. ) if I exceed 70 mph).

    I think they say :

    "NEW YORK

    The Empire State"

    IIRC

Now if you go to Quebec, the sign says "Welcome to Quebec", NY isn't so polite

Or in New Jersey the sign is like:

    "New Jersey.

    Shut the f-ck up!"

You should have no problems driving 75 mi/h in NY. Generally they will give about 10mi/h leeway and with the RD you should be easily under 10mi/h over when they see you. 75 in NY is a very minor risk, but 85 you're going to jail or something stupid
