I'm currently in the market for a new windshield mount RD and have narrowed it down to the Redline and V1. I've been scouring these forums and the internet for hours, but still have a few questions and concerns regarding which to get.
First off, my driving circumstances. 1) 85% of my driving will be through rural environments 2) X band and POP will be turned off right out of the box on both units, as neither are used in my area 3) C/O & Q/T Ka reigns supreme as my most widespread and significant threat 4) Detectors are legal in my area, so RDD Immunity is insignificant.
Now, I've been researching each of these units for hours, but still can't find the best match for my situation and only get more confused the more I read. My concerns for each:
Q/T radar is definitely a threat to me, and having a detector perform at its peak in this category is very important to me. Based on my readings, the V1 reigns supreme in this category and the Redline lacks significantly. This confuses me though, seeing as how the Redline appears to match or exceed the V1 in all out range on all radar bands. I can't understand how a detector like the Redline, which possesses such range and high performance antennae design, can be lacking Q/T detection capabilities??? Honestly, this is the main concern that is keeping me from pulling the trigger on the Redline, and I can't find a straight answer to this concern. The Redline seems to lead the way in all the range tests I've seen, but many of the posts I read on here make the Redline sound as though it's worthless against Q/T radar threats. Further explanation and clarification of this will make my decision far easier.
1) From my understanding, the V1 lacks significant detection range on 35.5 Ka. This is a major concern to me, seeing as how Ka band radar is one of the most common threats encountered in my area. Now, V1 is said to lead the way with Q/T detection, but how is this so if it lacks performance on a very critical Ka band??? I've read that turning off Ka Guard can increase 35.5 range, but I feel that I'd need Ka Guard; I couldn't tolerate frequent panic braking under the assumption of Q/T radar only to find out that it's a passing radar detector. Just looking for some clarification here from someone who knows this area of the V1.
2) I've read about frequent laser falses from various brake lights, construction signs, & laser cruise control systems with the V1. Laser alerts scare the **** out of everyone, and the idea of having a detector false on laser could grow tiresome. Yes, some may say sensitivity is the key with laser, but the odds of it actually saving you are 1 in 1000, and the potential false alerts from laser would outweigh any potential gain IMO. Laser defenses are illegal in my area, so an alert really won't buy me time to react... Any feedback on whether or not this is an issue would be appreciated.
Any advice or clarification would be of great help to me. The more research I do trying to find answers simply adds to my confusion, so thanks in advance!! Also, price really isn't a factor, since $100 is very minimal at this price point and a ticket can easily reach $300+. One legitimate save is all it takes to pay these things off.
