Default Poor V1 performance, second detector?

So I've had my V1 for a few months now, and I have to say it has been somewhat of a disappointment. I think i got a "challenged" unit that came off the production line wanting. I have not dropped it, but i do drive on some ****ty roads right now that produce a lot of vibrations through the car.

I get alerts to C/O ka about .5 of a mile away if on a straight away.

Around the bends against c/o ka I get almost no warning, maybe 5-10 seconds.

I have not encountered much instant on but have encountered KA and K band C/O. The alert distance is rather poor for both in my opinion. I was in Connecticut yesterday on i-84 trekking, a trooper had on C/O K band at cars across the road on straight away, i got a warning maybe .3 of a mile away, and it never even went close to full alert as i passed him. I drive the same roads against the same police with my friend in his saab 9-3 with an 8500 x50, and I have to say i think his unit is as good as mine, if not better at Ka range. Maybe my friend has a hot escort?

What do people think, did I just get a bad unit and need to send in for a fix?

I don't really want to put money into it, i could just sell if used for $300 and buy a redline for only $150 dollar loss. I'm also thinking of buying a redline and running it with the V1 and seeing how that works, then selling the v1 if i think i can manage with just the redline.

The arrows are a nice feature, I will say that if my v1 performed the same as the 8500x50 i would pay an extra $100 bucks just to have the arrows.

It is so disappointing when you watch videos of whistlers pro se versions picking up C/O Ka from a mile away, and you know your $400 unit can't perform on par with a whistler.

help and general thoughts much appreciated.

Where in upstate are you from? PM me the location if you don't want it on the open forum, I might be able to shed some more light here if I know the area.

Nah no problem. I'm in the tri-city / capital district area. I drive 90 to mass all the time, drive 87 North and South all the time, and I drive to CT on 84 from MAss to see my GF quite a bit. Now you know why I need a detector that works well haha. One thing I will say, i've only encountered laser on these trips a few times. But the cops have really nasty hiding spots for their radar tactics.

There has got to be something wrong with your V1, I have one as well as a Bel STI and I get similar range, depending on situation. Either that or do you have a windshield that could be blocking the signal ?? There is a sticky with a list of vehicles on the forum that have this problem.

I'd call VR and explain your situation to them. If you don't think it's working, they should take a look and fix it if necessary, especially since it's only several months old.

Your V1 may need service unless it's very challenging terrain. It should perform better than an x50, especially on k band. My V1 is insane with K band and you should get longer alerts on flat roads.

I wouldn't jump at a redline just yet. Give VR a call first and get the V1 working right.

Hope this helps, please ask any other questions.

Thanks for the feedback. I drive a 2006 A6. I don't believe my windsheield has anything out of the ordinary applied to it, and I have used the v1 in other vehicles with the similar results. I will call V1 and see what they say, hopefully the problem is fixable and not just as good as mine will peform.

Also not difficult terrain. The largest highways in the NE basicaly. I-87, I-90, I-84, and others. I don't turn the V1 on unless i'm on the highway. Speeding around city and town is just not something that interests me. I feel comfortable on the highway going far in excess of PSL with my vehicle. If someone in a 96 camry can go 75 without getting pulled over, i think I should get at least 10 more mph.

If you've moved it around the windshield a bit and tried it in other cars, it's gotta be the the V1.

I was blown away with the V1's K band performance in comparison to the passport.

    Keep us updated!
