I've been running a V1 + Redline for the past few weeks. The V1 missed an over hill Ka completely, while the Redline alerted far in advance. Some forum users recommended I turn off Ka guard.
Since turning it off, I seem to pick up short/weak Ka signals too often, but never saw where it was coming from.
Today I picked up a stronger Ka (Redline was quiet) that stayed on. The arrows pointed to the car it was coming from, which had a radar detector (assuming it was a cobra by the way it was mounted). Kind of annoying.
Later on this same drive, I picked up K band on both detectors. It was a fairly strong signal that stayed on. I was almost sure it was a cop since I drive this route everyday and never false there. I got excited only to find out it was (most likely) another leaky detector. The signal strength got stronger/weaker when I was closer/further from an Audi TT with a radar detector.
Question: Do cheap detectors also leak on K band? I kind of assumed it was only Ka since the V1 has Ka guard for that reason.
If this is a good idea, I think I'd turn Ka guard back on, and hope the Redline picks up what the V1 can't, which should rarely happen anyway.
I see more and more vehicles than I think I have before (or maybe just didn't notice) with cheap radar detectors. Should I get a Bushnell to set there's off if they set off mine? I got pretty mad today at the dude in the Audi TT (girls car I think) with his poorly mounted cheap radar detector that got me excited thinking I picked up a cop and with great range.
