    Default When Cops Use "Pop"

So when the cops use "Pop" on someone, it's just to get an "estimated speed" right? Okay, my town just starting use it. I know they are not supposed to be giving tickets based on Pop so I didn't really care. That is until I was out one night with a Bel Vector 965 when I recieved a POP. Okay, so I continue driving, about 1/6 mile away I see a cop hiding in the dark. Okay so then I come back with my V1 (3.826) and I pass by again. Then I get what seems like an instant-on. But since there is no difference in the showing of instant-on and pop (on the V1) I wouldn't know which it was (but Im assuming it was pop). Okay, my town sucks and the cops are gay (giving tickets for 2mph over) and I know one day Im gonna go speeding by and get a Pop. Now, if they tried pulling over for that (yes I know they are not supposed to, but if they do) and I ask to see their radar gun... Should there be something showing that it was in "Pop" mode? Or is it simply gonna be only numbers? (just so I can fight it with the cop)

When used in PoP mode, it won't lock in the speed, it will display the speed briefly then go "blank" until another reading is taken, so if a speed is locked in, it's not from PoP.

Once they have an estimated speed from POP, it is very easy to get a "regular" speed reading. On the BEE III and Enforcer, when a POP speed is displayed, a second press of the transmit button toggles the unit to instant-on for a court-accepted speed reading. ON the MPH Z-Series, holding in the trigger for an additional 1/2 second toggles the unit to instant-on.

WTF? California has POP now?

Was it CHP or local cop?

Does POP mode display a K-band or Ka-band type reading? How exactly does it work, is it pop-band?

In order for the pop to get a reading wouldnt it have a radar band?

    Here's the short answer.
PoP is just a "mode" of radar. there are k and ka guns that have this mode. All it means is that the gun can fire an extremely fast burst of instant on, so quick, that some detectors can't detect them. but the quick burst can't be locked into the gun reading, or used for writing the ticket. ( although it is possible that tickets are being written.)

they will use it to take a speed sample, then go to instant on for the "legal" speed reading.
Escorts and Bels display Pop when they detect this burst and the V1 displays the band.

If you want to know more, a quick search should pull up more info than you can read.

You can ask to see the radar gun but they do not have to show it to you and probably nine out of ten times they won't, I'm guessing mostly for safety concerns, they would rather you stay in your vehicle.
I wish VR would have a POP LED icon as well.
UhOh Did a Mapquest Livingston is closer than I thought, here all this time I thought you were in LA. Upgrading might be closer than I thought. Ca LEO's like their radar they are not crazy at all about laser.

I'd have to see some city, county or state purchase orders from MPH before I believe this.
