A friend of mine's Mom just purchased a 2011 Porsche Cayenne Turbo and after a drive to the beach she has already decided that she wants to follow my advice and get a radar detector ASAP. Personally, I've had a V1 in my car for the last 10 years and can't drive without it, but her main concern is removing falses and it begin relatively quiet unless it is a legit source. This is why I am leaning towards the Passport 9500ci over the V1/M45.
Here is why:
The Auto-Learn feature with the GPS.
The camera database and speed trap database.
Completely built-into the vehicle
She won't miss the arrows because she never had a V1...
I know those aren't the best reasons, but those are the only ones I can come up with thus far.
Is there any reliable way to add GPS to the V1? I was considering just shutting off X and K bands as the majority of the police in the area solely use KA and sometimes Laser but I would just feel like a fool if she got pulled over with a 2k radar setup that I installed!
She really doesn't want to have her detector peeping all the time and I must say that my V1 doesn't shut up, ever.
I do have one other pretty large concern, the Adaptive Cruise Control and Lane Change Assist features. I've read that both of these will set off the V1 and 9500 on many cars, but I haven't found any direct information about the Cayenne. I did try the V1 in her car for a day when I borrowed it and I don't recall getting a large number of faults or any laser warnings, but I wanted to check none the less.
I have an unlimited budget to accomplish this, would you guys be able to assist me in figuring out the optimal setup? I purchased a 9500ix so I could test out the overall functionality and whatnot of the Passport and will be picking it up tomorrow.
I've read that there are some GPS add-ons for the V1 but again I can't find any really complete information. I also have never used the Blinder M45 but I have been told that is the best of the best when it comes to laser jammers... true?
Cliffnotes Version: No budget, best all around protection and coverage, quiet setup with minimal falses, must not be set off my adaptive cruise control or lane change assist and must be 75% concealed (IE a V1 above the mirror is OK but not dead center on the windshield)
Thanks so much and sorry for the extremely long post, I'm sure you guys will have some amazing ideas!
