Default Is it safe to purchase RD from from non-authorized dealer?

    Hi,

new to this forum and looking to purchase a remote RD model, leaning towards BEL STI-r PLUS as I had 2 BEL remotes in my previous cars.
However, I am open to suggestions on any other remotes, I wish there was more competition.

    Now to the main question.
I was reading some other forum and came across of biased opinion from authorized RD dealer stating that if one buys an RD from a non-authorized dealer, then one can not claim warranty.
Really?? Is this a bunch of BS?

I come across sites/sellers who's pricing is about 20% lower than authorized dealers and web sites. So should I ignore those?

    Thanks

The STI-R+ is the best remote rd you can get and as far as the authorized dealer and if it is you are cover but if not you're not cover.

I wouldn't buy from an un-authorized dealer. Especially if I was going to spend that kind of money. People buy RD's from un-authorized dealers on Amazon, only to have warranty claims denied.

I would buy from Radarbusters. jmo

    It's your call though.

If you dig deeper you can get 10% off at radarbusters which is authorized. If its still worth it to save the other 10% then go for it. You could probably find the Chinese equivalent on eBay and save even more.

If you don't believe that dealer, you can believe the manufacturer. Go to the Beltronics website, and at the very bottom there's an "Unauthorized Resellers" link. There are a few conditions under which they won't honor your warranty, and buying from an unauthorized dealer is one of them.

If you spend that kind of money, why skimp on 20%? I would pay the extra 20% just for a piece of mind and the warranty.

    +1.

I was bit by this earlier this year when my eBay-purchased 8500 X50 needed that fix for the laser falsing. (I didn't realize it at the time, but the new X50 purchased on eBay didn't have a S/N.) So, the device shows up at Escort and they called me and said they would not fix it. Ultimately, they conceded and did repair it and did affix a S/N label...they did this for $100. So, saving those few bux on the internet purchase from a known unauthorized re-seller didn't save me a $.01 in the end.

I'm very cautious about this when making purchases from unauthorized re-sellers that can't cover the warranty side of it. The discount I'm seeking under such circumstances must be something like 50% off or better. I just don't want the hassle and am getting tired of crap that breaks in 12 months...radar detectors, computers, speakers or whatever.

Keep in mind that if you buy an STi-R Plus or any Database fed RD, you will not get access to their Database updates if you buy from an Unauthorized Reseller.

Check here for a list of Unauthorized Resellers (this is not up to date)

    Beltronics Unauthorized Resellers

    Escort Radar Unauthorized Resellers

Finally, buy from RadarBusters and use the ten percent Forum Member Discount Code at check out: FB8259
