Default Looking for RD for VA..with questions

Hey guys, I’m new to detectors/the forums and I had a couple questions:

I’ve been thinking about getting a RD but currently live in VA, so it seems that I would want one that isn’t detectable by RDD.

If I were to get a top end RD like the BEL STi Driver, would there be any way for them to know that I had it unless I braked while they tagged me? Also, from what I’ve read it can detect Instant On as long as there are cars ahead of you getting tagged?
From what I’ve seen, if they do detect it the worst thing that happens is that you get ~$100 fine and they could possibly confiscate it for a short time, does anyone know if this is true?

Basically I’m just looking for advice on how to run RD in VA and not be detected/constantly worry about getting caught. The BEL STi Driver seems like the way to go but I don’t want to get it confiscated since its so pricey.

O and instead of mounting it on the windshield is it possible to place it near the passengers feet and still have it detect?

Sorry for all the questions I’m just trying to figure out what I should do

    STi-R Plus

Depends if it is Instant On or Quick Trigger. STi isn't the best on the latter.
They write down the serial number, give you a fine, and hand it back to you.
Probably, but by that time, it would be too late.

The detector need a clear view outside without any metallic obstructions, so to keep it by your feet wouldn't work that well

The STi is undetectable to the RDDs but not to the eye, so consider mounting it on the visor. or what I have done, under a baseball cap on the dash.

theres two undetectable systems that can be built into your car for full stealth, the STI-R and the 9500ci.

then there's three windshield mounts that are undetectable but run the risk of being visible. that's the sti driver, sti magnum and the escort redline.

what i've seen people do is mount the detector on their dashboards, take a small tissue box, and cut out the buttom and cut a window so the detector can see out. At first glance, it will just look like a tissue box.

as for slowing down, i would downshift my car to prevent my car from nose diving or the brake lights turning on.

I live in VA, had a V1 and sold it and bought a Redline for stealth purposes. I'm very pleased with it.

The STi-R was discontinued last year. The STi-R Plus replaced it earlier this year.

I have been running a v1 for a year and a half in virginia. No one has ever come after me (knock on wood). I would prefer to have the quick trigger response of the V1 and risk an RD ticket than miss a radar signal and get a speeding ticket. think about which holds a higher penalty. Used properply, (with a kill switch, not braking with a rear signal, and mounted high on the windshield) the V1 will give you better situational awareness IMO. I'm about to send mine in for the 3.892 upgrade. VA can pry my RD from my cold dead fingers!

Redline seems like a great choice.

Interesting. Do you have an opinion on whether it is more dangerous with your V1 close to a state line....Do the locals run RDDs? What is the penalty for lighting up the VSP with a LI?

    Thanks!
