    Default Whistler Pro 3600+GPS($350) or Qi45/RX-45 ($422)

    Location (CA, Santa Clara County):

    High Ka and High Laser
Traffic Radar everywhere (Highway 17/101/280/880) (so Bel TSR/Whistler Filter3 will be used)
No X or real K (but maybe if I leave the area)
No speed/redlight cameras locally, but yes if I go to SF (rare)

Idea is to keep it discreet, I will simply wire it myself. I was using an RX-65 that just crapped out at 45 days so that's being returned to amazon.

(BMW 5-series E39, so it's going below and to the right (if looking at it head on) of license plate next to intake.)

You can't go wrong with any of these models. I would recommend the RX-65(USA Mode) out of the three though since you don't have any red light cameras locally. You may run into them out of town but it sounds like you won't be going out of town very often. Good luck!

thanks but I just had my RX-65 die and I'd rather have a remote detector.

I thought you were listing the RX-65 as an option. If you want a remote detector then you can do well either way. I think the 3600 would be more bang for your buck, so if it were me I'd go with that. The QI-45 is overpriced when you can get a detector with the same sensitivity for 150. Your other option is that you could save up for an STI-R+ and get both awesome detection range and gps.

I would go with the pro-3600 between the two. But if I were going to go thru all that work to install a remote unit I would save up for a stir plus or 9500ci. Just so you know no detector will save you from lidar. You will jammers for that.

What about falses? I get nearly no falses with the RX-65 when TSR is on (and by proxy, the RX-45). Are whistlers prone to falsing?

I have heard about ka falses with the SE platform in heavy urban areas. Some say that it falses too much, others say that the detector doesn't false hardly at all. One thing I do like about the Whistlers though is that if you have it on city mode, it beeps twice, stops, then beeps again if the signal gets stronger. Escorts and Bels tend to keep beeping unless you mute them. I am not sure if the QI45 is any different. In the city, if you put the whistler in city mode as far as noise goes it should be more quiet.

When I was considering the Whistler 3600 I found it has a TON of falses. Its worth it to upgrade to the STIR+. Without the shifters you can get it pretty cheap (I negotiated mine down WITH shifters to about $1,000).

With the two antennas at the Rev C+ will will have tons of falses. RevC+ is similar to the 8500 escort series from the reading I have done.

Find a way to get the extra cash, its well worth the investment. Then pick up some shifters CHP are deadly with laser and i/o!
