    Post Time to finally choose

    Hey guys/gals,

Been reading here for a bit, & think it's time to choose one.
I am from Montreal, here everyone knows it's illegal to have a radar detector.

I want something that is undetectable (can't be picked up by opp), can mainly pick up all the cop gun signals & doesn't give too many false readings.

By searching i narrowed it down to 2 popular stealth ones:

    Beltronics STi Magnum Radar Detector
Beltronics STi Magnum Radar Detector - Radar Detectors at Radar Busters

    Escort RedLine Radar Detector

Escort RedLine Radar Detector - Radar Detectors at Radar Busters

    I know there's this too:
    Beltronics STi-R Plus Radar Detector
but it's pretty costly Starting Price: $1,199.99 haha

Any feedback/comments or if there are other undetectable ones let me know!

    Thanks!

    Just go to my thread.

Get a V1. Detect very far away, and dont worry about RDD unless your driving in an 18 wheeler. Otherwise the amount of officers which actually use RDD is very low!

To summarize your over worrying that little 40$ slap on the wrist IF BY RARE CHANCE A COP ACTUALLY IS MONITORING FOR AN RD !

To Cody: Please dont reply to posts if you dont have a clue what you're talking about.

If you are caught with a detector in Quebec or Ontario, they will confiscate your detector.
The fine can be up to $1000.

To the original poster, either detector you mentioned will work fine. The redline will have a slightly better range for picking up radar signals, but has a terrible "ramp up" going from nothing to full audio signal without really relecting on the distance from the cop radar.

FYI, the OPP loves to use the Spectre RDD in border areas, either the US borders of NY or MI, and also the Quebec border along the 401 and 417. You will mostly see the OPP using K band for radar and either the Ultralyte or the Laser Atlanta for lidar.

    Good luck.

You can buy either detector with similar results. Do not by a V1 because you will get caught. Been running STi since it came out and love the thing. Fantastic range, but not so good for instant-on. Some newer radar is more faint and you can sometimes only get a couple hundred yards with mine, especially if he's facing the other way. The QPP and OPP are aware of detectors so they try to fool people with quick-triggering etc. Lots of people have stealth detectors now. The don't make you invincible, but they do reduce risk.

Bingo . Personally I would go Magnum but either will work for you just the same, just don't go V1 and get Live Enjoy!!

If you have the money, I would say STiR Plus for the overall performance and also for the fact that you will probably want to kill yourself with all the falses in montreal. Now, the install is CRUCIAL. QPP uses a few spectres and I can almost garentee you that there is at least one car equipped with it in montreal/greater montreal. The fine is 750$ in Quebec and they take your detector away. If it is a remote detector, they tow your vehicle and have it uninstalled at your own costs. (They don't always do that but they may)

    What's instant on?
    I been reading a lot.
Supposedly the Escort Redline has really good ka readings compared to the bel sti
    BUT
the redline has a lot of faulty readings compared to the bel sti

    true?

It's basically mostly for performance wise.
I want to do it with not so high of a budget lol
I saw in your sig. "Escort Redline (Backup in the closet)" lol

Do you mean "Instant-on" as in laser hits?
I heard the escort redline is good at that

Instant-on means that the LEO keeps his radar off and only activates it when he want to acquire the speed of a vehicle and immediately shuts it off after. Go on youtube and search for the youtube user leoenforcement. He's got a few very fast and very good instant-on videos.

Redline sucks at laser (just like all the other detectors exept V1 I guess) and is also really bad at I/O. Cannot tell what is better between RL and Magnum as I have never used the Magnum. What I can tell you though is that the ramp-up is much better with the Magnum than the RL.

I live on the south shore of Montreal and have had a Bell STI for a year now, great detector,i was hit for the first time on the 30 west bound near the 10 by a cop instant on K band, very surprising, did not slam the brakes, just downshifted a gear, and had time to slow down from 125 to about 110 kmh, after i passed him he shooted me another time in the back, was he checking if i was going to slam the brakes?

If you want tips on how to hide your detector just PM me.
