Default Why do you have a Radar Detector?

    It's a fair question.

What caused you to be interested in RADAR/LIDAR, and why do you have one in your car?

(I imagine most of the responses will be along the lines of leadfoot syndrome, but maybe its different for people)

Been wanting one since the earth cooled and now that I finally have one, I want more. I had to flip a coin between 'Situational Awareness' and 'It's a hobby...' but overall it's to try and keep my record clean even though I'm not in the go-fast crowd.

Just want to know where they are at, especially on a two lane 50 mph zone.

Because the self-righteous enforcers think that they are punishing those evil people who exceed an artificially low limit. Granted, if the punishment ended with the cost of the ticket, that might be enough. But they do not realize the exponential cost involved, such as: increased rates of insurance, unfair penalty on driving records and more. They are nothing more than uniformed highway robbers with their radar guns. I mean, hiding in bushes, around corners, behind obstacles, like a snake in the grass. If you want to slow people down, be highly visible, use constant on radar, give more warnings than oppressive revenue generating tickets. Oh well, wishful thinking.

    Can't agree more .

I use rd since I am 20 ...40 years later I still use cms because
I want to know where they are , what they do . I am smart and
responsible enough to slow down when the circumstances asked
    for.

They apply a rule that most times have no connection with relality ....like 45 mph on 3 lanes highways ...because it is
    a urban highway ...

Speed is the least factor in 80% of accidents .....
but the most enforced for many reasons :
    ease of control ,
good for the public image ,
generate revenues along the food chain : judge-prosecutor-civil employees-manufacturers ...
an established system is hard to change.

Even governmental studies show that fair speed limits are
followed by 85% of people , but those studies are shadowed
    by the autorities.

We are all for safer roads but is the actual focus on speed alone the
    right way ?
O divine art of subtlety and secrecy!
    Through you we learn to be invisible, through you inaudible;
and hence hold the enemy's fate in our hands.

Because I drive an eye magnet for a car, a two ton red whale to be exact. And because I got kick ass deal on the HIGHER END COBRAS (COUGH COUGH, HATERS IN THE BUILDING) for a steal, and it keeps me on my toes, which actually means I follow the law more, which is a good thing of course.
