So people often ask what radar detector is better - and I've gone through that too. V1, different Escorts, etc. Right now I have a Redline with Escort Live.
I drive a lot - and what I found out from everyday experience, is that how the detector interacts with you is very important. What do I mean? Case in point, I will outline the pros and cons of both detectors I have used recently:
Escort live and Redline:
Pros: Great performance and Escort Live keeps it quiet as you can lock out signals, plus you get red-light cameras and speed trap marking.
Cons: Still no Escort Live direct wire, messy wiring. Escort Live app is also not 100% stable, crashes at times, doesn't get some alert lockouts, and generally still has some issues. Plus you have to keep your phone connected and the battery drains very fast.
Valentine 1:
Pros: Performance is good, plus the arrows are very interesting. Savvy definitely quiets it down.
Cons: Still a lot of false alerts, even with Savvy. If you keep it in all bogeys mode, even on the highway around the NY/NJ area, you'll get plenty of false alerts that make you less aware because you tend to ignore them after a while.
To conclude: Both have issues living day to day. I still think that radar detectors are not refined enough yet for everyday use, for reasons pointed above. Sure, you can use them everyday - but not without some headaches. These faults could be easily fixed with a little better technology and reliable execution of the current platforms.
