So I have ALWAYS mounted high for obvious reasons. However there was a speed sign (K band) near my house this weekend so I thought I'd have a little test. Escort X50. I mounted low (above wipers about 4-5" above dash right in front of me), mid-windshield in center of car, and my regular mount (as high as the roofliner in my honda accord, left of RVM). The road was a 35 mph, with a small bend and a few hills high enough you couldn't see over. Plenty of trees, telephone wires, mailboxes, houses, etc. Very light traffic in either direction.
I drove about 30-35 mph and was shocked when the low mount picked up the signal 1st after repeated tests. Now i'm only talking about 50-75 feet but still. The mid mount right under RVM picked it up second best, and high mount last. I dont think the tint band at top of windshield is an issue as it is standard tint.
Very strange...thoughts? Maybe it was reflections off of other vehicles, I dont know. I'm still in the high mount camp but still strange.
