    Default V1 or RedLine dilemma

    Hey all,

So I am looking to upgrade from my v995(M4) and have done extensive research on both the V1 and Redline. I love the arrows on the V1 but I don't like that it doesn't display frequencies. However it's good when it comes to Q/T when compared to the RedLine. Also it can be programed to mute K band alerts which would be a big benefit for me. But from what I understand for this muting function to be active the V1 has to be set to little l mode. Which is great around town but on the highway I would like to run the V1 in A mode. I guess my question is, if I were to enable all the "filtering" options on the V1 would it but just as slow as the RedLine to Q/T shots? I am looking for the quieter of the two, but I want something a step up or two from what I am currently running.

    -Thanks

If you enable K-band muting on the V1 it just starts alerting at your muted volume, one of two volume levels on the V1. The arrows will still light and you won't miss a Q/T like the RL. The V1 has the best K-band muting in the RD business.

If you want speed based muting from your OBD port get Savy. It works great.

If you are looking for the quieter of the two. go with the redline. It has much better filtering and with escort live it is no contest on which one alerts to a real threat.. The v1 is a very chatty detector. The only thing I like about the V1 is the arrows. your redline would have to miss every shot on the cars in front of you. And for an officer to keep 5-10 shots undetectable by the redline is very rare. I have yet to have my redline fail me on instant on shots. I thought it had once but after going over what happened I just happen to be the first car he tagged.

I would not buy a Redline for Escort Live. I really don't think it is going to last. Escort users with Live is a very tiny fraction of a market segment and don't see it taking off anytime soon, if ever. Remember, most motorists are not fanatics like members of this board are (me included) and are not interested in what Escort Live may offer. I would only pref. the Redline over the V1 was if I were to frequently travel in areas where RD's are illegal or a trucker where RD's are illegal in every state. Just my 2 cents.

A freq meter on the V1 would be nice to tell if it is a 33.8 Ka MPH gun for POP needs. Remember (for newer models) that black face cans are Stalkers (34.7) and the white face cans are more likely Kustom (35.5- a tighter beam) with a few MPH guns left, you have to look in the Leo's car to tell for sure. There might be a few 35.5 Decaturs out there. Q/T is rare like POP, but depends on your area. The V1 has to be in the little or big L mode for the K band settings. Why would you want to run the V1 in A mode? There are better ways depending on your area. No, the speed of the V1 does not change. I/O shots break in above 4 LEDs like normal settings and C/O ramp up breaks in at 6 LEDs, it is like a city mode but a max of 30 seconds untill the V1 returns to a normal action (K band). The quieter of the two will depend on what is used along with the unit and the settings. What is used in your area (list in other section)?

It's very easy to go from small l to big L and back. The redlines K band filtering mode is about the same as the V1's. If you need an undertechtable detector go the redline if not the V1 imo. Freq display is a gimmick why... well if the bells/escort ka filtering was any good you wouldn't need the freq read out. I find the redline false a lot @33.6-8 GHz. I don't find that on the V1 at all

The V1 used to have a decial point that stay lite or flash depending on whic part of Ka you were on. They can and need to do that again. But it sounds like ESP will handle that.

Thats very interesting. My older V1's use to false a bit on Ka even with the Ka guard on. I wounder if that was a way of VR letting the user know which end of the Ka band it is so the user can decided if an annoying ka false can be Identified.

In the areas of Long Island, which is where i mostly drive, its going to be 34.7, stalker all day. My v995 picks up NYSP pretty well but sometimes I could use a bit more warning. But I also take a lot of road trips all across the eastern seaboard, so I would like a jack of all trades. Also laser is used a lot by NYPD, so I never speed on highways located within the city border (50 MPH PSL), not till I get an LI or Blinder.
