    Default Radar Detector Shake Up!

Several years ago, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has allocated 13.45 GHz in the Ku band for traffic radar use in the United States. However, no radar gun manufacture has made a gun to use this frequency and there are only a select few radar detectors that have this band built into them.

This may all change in the next several months!

Through our sources in the police enforcement industry, a major police radar gun manufacture will be releasing a new Ku band radar gun to the US Market during the 2nd quarter of 2005!

This gun is going to be tested in the later part of January, for a law enforcement publication

As most US radar detectors do not have this frequency, many manufactures will have to scramble to include this new band!

The Beltronics RX65 and Vector 995 already come with this band, all one would need to do is activate it by going into the programming mode.

Most of Escort's products can be upgraded for the new threat.

It is going to be interesting the next six month to see how this new radar threat is going to play out in that; how many other radar gun manufactures are also going to include this band, and how the radar detector industry is going to respond!

What does the BEL display read when it picks up Ku?

I know the Valentine 1 has to be reprogrammed to pick up Ku, but what does the display say when it picks up Ku?

Also is there any false alarms that could come from Ku, like door openers?

Don't know, never seen a Ku alert and I am now trying to find a gun. But I assume that it will say "Ku band"

Well the Valentine doesn't have a little light next to anything that says "KU" like it does with X, KA, and K bands. I'm assuming the KA light goes off?

I believe Ku band is used by some satelite dishes? Think we would expect a lot of falses with this band on a detector?

    Dammit!

I just got the Escort 8500 x50 as a pre-Christmas Christmas present! Maybe I should have asket for the Bell RX65.

How tough is it to upgrade with Escort?

When Escort does an upgrade, they will e-mail you and send you a notification card. You would send your unit in and they would do the upgrade

Default Escort can be upgraded to new Ku

Here is a message from regarding the new Ku band threat:

The FCC authorized the Ku-Band for use in the US approximately ten years ago! Our Passport 8500 X50 has a flash chip that can be software up-dated if the police introduce new bands or new frequencies of radar or laser in the US.
It is difficult to know for sure if this will happen, we have heard the "rumors" for a while now.
The Bel RX65 is a great machine and already has the Ku-Band. In recent tests it has performed very well and you will not go wrong with either model.
